Sage Vedvyas's realization

Sage Vedvyas was tired....No really really tired. First due to his son Vidur's weird request and now by the presence of this boy, Karna. Sometimes he blamed himself for mingling himself with the royal politics of the Kurus. He knew the day his mother Satyavati called him to impregnate his sisters-in-law, from that day his peaceful life was over. Vedvyas was a great sage who had immense knowledge of politics and diplomacy. He also knew that in royal politics sometimes people had to bend the rules of Dharma to maintain the reputation and integrity of the kingdom but now what Kurus were doing was a bit too much. They always expected that all their wrongdoings should be covered in the name of Dharam. So for many times, he was forced to take part in their politics. He also knew his son Vidur (technically Dhritarashtra and Pandu were also his sons). Vidur was ambitious and could go to any extent to achieve his dream, which was to place Panduputras in the position of power. Though Vidur always said that he wanted Dharma on the throne, but Vedvyas knew the main reason behind Vidur's intention. Vidur opposed Dhritarashtra's coronation and made Pandu the king. But due to the circumstances now Dhritarashtra was in the position of power and if Dhritarashtra's son became the king then his position would be in peril. So Vidur took the opportunity of the stormy night during Duryodhana's birth and made him a bad omen so that no one could agree to make him the king. Sage Vedvyas knew everything that how to save his skin Vidur blamed the newborn baby. He also warned him about the consequences, but Vidur was adamant that Panduputras were the most deserving ones. Due to all this Sage Vedvyas tried to distance himself from the royal politics but again a few days back his son came with a weird request and with a kid.

Vidur, 'Father, I want you to keep this boy as a servant in your Ashram.'

Sage Vedvyas, 'What? He is just a kid and I am not interested to force a kid to do hard work. BTW I have plenty of workers here and I don't need another.'

Vidur, 'Father, it is important to keep this boy away from Hastinapur. And don't fall for the innocent face of his. He is nothing but a menace.'

Sage Vedvyas, 'What did he do? Stole some fruits from the royal garden...or played some pranks on you?'

Vidur, 'He is a sut but still has the audacity to befriend that adharmi Duryodhana and his brothers. After my prediction, no one in the kingdom dared to even talk to the Kaurav princes but he not only became their best friend but due his influence the princes were even questioning our laws. You know that Duryodhana even questioned queen Satyavati's lineage.'

Sage Vedvyas, 'My son, mother has to face the consequence of her greed for power. Her action towards her own grandsons was unforgivable.'

Vidur (irritated), 'Father whatever we are doing are good for our kingdom. I don't want the spawns of that adharmi Gandhara family to be the king.'

Sage Vedvyas, 'You know...you and your dharmagyan will be the doom of our kingdom one day.'

Vidur (angrily), 'I don't want to debate with you about dharma. Either you keep this boy here or I have to think of something else.'

Sage Vedvyas knew that if he did not agree, Vidur might take that poor boy to some other place where the people would be harsher on him. So reluctantly he agreed to keep the Sut boy.

Sage Ved Vyas sighed,'Okay, now leave him here and go.'

It was more than two months the kid was there and sage Vedvyas was cursing his son in his mind to leave such a storm in his ashram. As Karna was just a kid, Vedvyas asked him to take care of the cows as that was an easy job. The boy was very good at that. In fact when the boy went to the cow shade for the first time the behavior of the cows shocked everyone. As if all the animals were dancing in joy by seeing him. Karna also loved the animals and always took good care of them. The sut boy was also obedient and polite but still, his presence started unnerving other inhabitants of the ashrams.
