Chapter 13 - Marriage Without Love

I landed on the floor on the other side. Light flooded my vision. Everything was bright and blurry for a solid minute. When I got my bearings, I looked around to see I was in my room, back home in Merrispark. Aiden was standing over me with Preston, a member of the hero's party.

Y/N: "No..."

Aiden: "Alright! Nice work, Preston! We did it!"

Preston: "I didn't think the spell would work. What a stroke of luck."

Aiden offered me his hand to stand up. I scowled and slapped it away before standing myself.

Y/N: "What's the big idea?! Why did you bring me back?!"

Aiden: "We rescued you from the foul clutches of the demon king, princess."

Y/N: "I didn't want to be rescued! Didn't you hear me telling you to let me go?!"

Aiden: "I thought you were talking to the demon king."

Y/N: "How are you this clueless?!"

Preston: "I'll go get the king and queen..."

I grabbed his arm.

Y/N: "Don't you dare! Preston, you better open up that wormhole right now and send me back! That's a royal order!"

Preston: "But, princess, why?"

Before I could answer that, my bedroom door opened and in walked my mother and father. Aiden and Preston bowed to them.

Y/T: 'Damn it...'

Y/N: "Mother, Father..."

Mother: "Y/N! Oh, my sweet baby girl! I'm so glad you're safe..."

She ran up and wrapped her arms around me. She then pulled away and inspects me.

Mother: "Did they hurt you?"

I recoiled when she touched the old gash on my stomach. She gasped.

Mother: "Did the demons do that to you?!"

Y/N: "No, no, no... Not at all. This was a result of my own clumsiness. The demons healed me, mother."

Mother: "They what?"

Preston: "Queen Merrispark, the princess said she wanted me to-"

I gave him an intense death stare.

Y/T: 'Don't. You. Dare.'

Mother: "Yes?"

Preston: "Uh... nothing, never mind. My apologies."

My father walked up to me, smiling. He put his hand on my shoulder.

Father: "Never mind those retched demons now..."

Y/T: 'They're not retched! They're kind... and honest...'

Father: "The point is, you're back now, Y/N, safe and sound. And with that, we can now begin the royal wedding preparations!"

Y/T: 'No...'

Y/N: "Father, please... I really don't think I'm ready to-"

Father: "Nonsense! Why, we've been planning for this ever since you were a little girl."

Aiden: "We're going to be happy together, princess."

He tried to kiss me, but I turned away.

Y/N: "Dismissed please. I'd like to be left alone for the rest of the day..."

Mother: "As you wish, sweety. Come, dear. Aiden, Preston, you too."

Everyone left. When I was sure they were out of earshot, I fell to the ground, sobbing.

Y/N: "Twilight... I'm sorry... I love you..."

Meanwhile... Knock Knock.

Big Big: "My liege? Princess? It's quite late..."

Big Big and the demon cleric walk in to find Twilight on his knees. He hasn't moved.

Cleric: "Demon King, where's the princess?"

Twilight: "He took her... the hero..."

They gasped.

Big Big: "How?"

Twilight: "I have no idea... he just... came out of nowhere..."

Cleric: "Sire?"

Twilight: "I failed her..."

His voice was breaking.

Twilight: "I promised I would protect her from that damn hero face, and I couldn't!!"

Big Big: "My liege?"

Twilight: "Leave me... please..."

Cleric: "As you wish, sire..."

They left.

Twilight: "Princess... I'm sorry... I love you..."
