I sat and waited as Tim called the person he's been on the run with. Apparently his name was Brian, and Tim warned me he may not be too friendly to start with.

His words were, "Ever since this started for us, Brian turned cold to others, distrustful. We've had some bad run ins with other people also involved, including the guy that got us first into this mess. So he might not be all that cool, y'know?"

I couldn't blame him if that's really the case. I likely wouldn't be very trusting either, since it's my life I'm fighting to protect, as well as someone else's. I just hope he can cooperate a little bit at least.

As Tim finished the call, he turns to me with a sigh. "So we've gotta go meet him. We share the truck, Y'know?" He instructs, making sure he has his keys in his pocket. I just nod in response.

Time to go, I guess.

Tim drives us to a motel in town. It was clearly one of those cheaper ones, and very sketchy looking. "You know, as much as I trust you for someone I just met yesterday, I gotta ask," I start to say as we pull into the parking lot of the motel. "I'm not, like, about to be murdered or something, right?"

I hear him laugh at me for my question. "If I wanted to kill you, it would've been done last night, when you so cautiously slept soundly with a stranger across the room from you." I softly laugh with a shrug.

"Ah, Y'know, you make a fair point there."

I follow Tim to the room he and Brian apparently shared while here. There was a bunch of weird smells coming from all sorts of areas around the motel, and I couldn't imagine the room itself smelt any better. Tim used his key to get it, and I assumed right. The first thing I noticed was how bad the room smelt.

As I walked in, a man sat on the bed, occupied with something on his phone, who I assume is Brian. He didn't look like what Tim described. He looked nice, and pretty, too. "Huh..." I was a bit surprised.

"Brian, here's who wanted to met you," Tim caught his attention as he leaned against the wall, leaving me to close the door behind me. Brian looked at me and had an expression of silent judgement. I felt almost insulted just from that.

He sighed and looked back over at Tim. "She just looks like some girl. Not as important looking as you made it sound on the phone." He was talking about me to Tim as if I wasn't standing right here. Maybe Tim did describe him correctly.

"Dude, you haven't even talked to her yet."

"I don't see the point in it. I mean, look at her." Brian mumbled in response. Fuck this dude.

I cross my arms over my chest, probably glaring at this stranger. "Look at me? Look at you! Five minutes into meeting you and you're acting like an entitled, judgmental brat. Did no one teach you any manners?" I retort, visibly annoyed by his attitude and words. He just laughed at me as he got up and started walking towards me.

"A brat?" He questioned with amusement in his voice as he got closer. I wanted to step back and stay further away from him, but refused to let myself do such.

"Yes. A brat. Like what does how I look have anything to do with the situation at hand?" I stared up at him. He was taller than Tim, who was already a bit taller than me. I think I only came up to his chest. I heard him laugh at me again.

"Well, it makes no sense to keep around someone who's weak. It's especially not worth it when the girl isn't even my type." What the fuck? Excuse me?

He was now way too close for comfort, maybe only a few inches away from being right on me. "If I'm so far from your type, why are you getting so close to me like a creep?" I say, finally taking a step back away from him. "You aren't my type either, so I'd suggest backing the fuck up."

"Oh? Or what? What's a tiny little girl gonna do?" I could just hear the smirk on his face through his words. What a fucking jackass.

Just before I do anything, Tim comes up to us, telling Brian to chill out. I just glare down at the floor as he listens, taking some steps back to give me space. "Sorry, but she just looks like someone worth teasing."

"Worth teasing, my fucking ass," I huff under my breath, only making him laugh at me yet again.

Tim sighs, shaking his head. "Look, you two can go fight, or fuck, or whatever later, okay? We have things we need to discuss." I shoot my head up to look at him with a shocked and insulted face.

"Please never suggest I'd fuck someone who's as much of a dick as he is," I huff. Tim just waved his hand dismissively at me.

Brian laughs as he sits back on the bed. "Tim is just used to girls liking me and not him, that's all." I look back and forth between the two men. That doesn't make sense to me.

"I don't see why-" I start, but Tim interrupts me, "Okay! Let's actually get to the important topic now!" His face was slightly flushed after Brian's comment.

After that, we talked about the situation with the operator, as they called it. Brian just shared a lot of the same stuff Tim did earlier, about getting involved with that creature and staying on the run with Tim. It seems they both got involved by the same circumstances, but neither of them really wanted to share the events of what happened. From what I'm hearing about the operator, I don't think I can blame them.

"Why not kill it?" I asked, and they both looked at me like I was stupid.

"You think if there was a way that we wouldn't have done it already?" Brian shook his head at me. "Seriously dude, where did you get this girl?" He asked Tim who just silently shrugged in response. "That thing is unkillable. It's not human or even some weird animal." Tim added.

"No shit it's not human, but there has to be a way," I look off to the side, wanting to avoid looking at the two after Brian's comment. I don't like being made out to be stupid, which is all that he has been doing.

"If you can find a way to kill that thing, you'd be a damn genius or just batshit," Brian stated as he fell down on to the bed, laying with his arms behind his head. That's when another thought hit me.

"Let me join you guys."
