Brian laughed straight in my face at my suggestion. "What do you think you can do? Get yourself killed? Get us killed?"
I glare at him, crossing my arms angrily. "First off, fuck you. I'm a fucking investigator, do you really think I can't handle myself? My whole job is potentially putting myself in extreme danger, and as you can see I'm still alive." I huff.
"Second off, I'm involved in this too. Not only because of my work, but also personally. Whether I went with you or not, I'd be in deep shit. It's just smarter to work with other people, dumbass."
Tim chuckled, saying nothing and letting us play this through. Brian refused to take me seriously, like I was a dumb kid.
He raised his arms defensively with a look that already told me he had a smart comment. "Look, little girl-"
"Little girl? Fucking excuse me? You really want to patronize me when I could take your ass down?" My voice raised and I was ready to jump him. He laughed at me again.
"Sure, sure. But look, too many people causes problems. Tim and I know this best. We've lost people and figured out it's better for it to just be us." There was a bit of sadness to his tone when he mentioned the others. I averted my gaze and avoided looking at both him and Tim.
I chewed on my cheek before speaking again. "So you just plan to keep running? With no idea really what that thing is or when your luck will run out? At least I could maybe find a way to kill it, or something." I heard a scoff come from Brian.
Before he said anything, Tim intervened. "Maybe at least try? It's her decision, really. Either we help each other, or leave her and she dies alone." There was a bit of silence after that, as if Brian was thinking.
I hear a quiet and defeated answer from Brian. "Fine."
I guess I won this.
I sat on the bed, making sure to stay as far away from Brian as room allowed. "How long do you guys usually stay in one place?" I asked, looking at Tim.
He shrugged. "Sometimes a couple days, sometimes a few months. It all depends," Brian answered, also noticeably moving to get farther from me. What a fucking asshole.
"Well," I start, crossing my legs. "Let's leave tomorrow then. That fucker is already here, has been, and keeps taking targets, so we really should hurry up and go." Tim and Brian both quietly agree to my suggestion with no complaints.
"Tim, can you take me back to my place so I can get some stuff?" Before he could answer, Brian interrupted.
"Oh, what do you need to go get your toys? Let me come, I wanna see the girl's house."
"I refuse to let someone as nasty as you anywhere near my house. You'd stink it up and make it look bad," I rolled my eyes, getting up and stretching my arms above my head. Brian laughed at that, also getting up himself.
Brian grabbed the keys from Tim, claiming that he'd drive. "Dude, you don't even know the way." He shrugged with a smile.
"Tim can tell me, can't you?" He looked over at him for confirmation. Instead, Tim just took the keys back and shook his head. "I don't want your driving to kill me, thanks."
Brian looked so offended and I couldn't help but laugh.
We then start to head back to my place.
