Jumping right in, why do people either hate Hiyoko or defend her with their life ?
I understand why she bullies people, especially Mikan. It's a mix of her backstory, and her trying to help the nurse. She's rude as a defence, and she's rude to Mikan to try to get her to defend herself.
However, I don't care about her intentions, she didn't help Mikan. She probably made her self esteem worse.
I love her, and I love her for caring about Mikan, but it's wrong.
Yes, defend her (hell I defend her), but understand that being horrible to people is just shitty. Her past and her intentions aren't an excuse.

This is why I'm so mad she died before someone could teach her how to care for people. She literally dies right before she can get any character development 😭😭
