Description: Jax's old flame is on her way home to Charming to visit her big brother when her whole life is turned upside down.
I smiled at the Welcome to Charming sign as it flew by and I finally slow down just enough for Wayne to not pull me over. Riding is so automatic that my mind wanders back to my youth as the wheels of my Harley spin beneath me.
"Why do you have to leave?" Jax asked. We had ridden out here together. He was 18 and I was 16. My mother allowed me to visit Dad but I couldn't live with him full time despite wanting too.
"You know how Mary is," I said, scoffing at my own mother. She dragged me away from my life and my family and forced Opie and I to start over. Luckily for Opie, he's 18 now and living with Dad while he prospects into the MC.
"Run away. Move in with your dad and Ope. Be my old lady," he said. The last part was so quiet I almost missed it. I shook my head and laughed at him.
"You just miss Tara and I'm okay with being with you for just right now. Some day she's going to come back into your life and you'll marry her. Anyone can see it," I said.
"Except me-."
My memory of Jax's words was cut short by something hitting my bike and sending me flying. I groaned as I finally came to a stop several hundred feet from my bike. I tried to get up but everything hurt. Maybe if I just laid for a second I'd be okay. I tried to breath and focus on something.
That's when I heard her voice. The voice of the woman who was a second mom to me.
"(Y/N)," she said, kneeling by me as she spoke to someone frantically.
"Gemma," I whispered out. I could barely feel her hand as she placed it on my cheek under my helmet straps.
"It's okay baby," she said. "Help is on the way."
"Tell Ope and Dad I love em," I said. I knew I wasn't making it through this. Lights were getting brighter and merging together into one light that shone brilliantly white.
"Tell Jax I love him," I said softly and I relaxed, having accepted the inevitable as JT's image walked forward to greet me and pull me into the afterlife with all my father's chosen family.
Gemma's POV:
"God dammit," I muttered as she mumbled to tell my son she loves him. Luckily the ambulance pulled up and the EMTs jumped out to start helping her. I quickly dialed Opie's phone number and prayed he'd answer.
"Gem, what's up? I'm kinda busy," his voice came through the phone.
"It's your sister damnit," I spat. "Get to the hospital now." He hung up and I bolted for my car, racing to the hospital to be with my adopted daughter.
As I ran in behind the EMTs, I made eye contact with my son.
"Is that-?"
"Yes."
"What the hell happened to her?" He asked as some doctors and nurses backed off the gurney so they could shock her heart again.
"Her bike got hit by a car. He drove off. It was a silver low rider. I don't know much else I panicked thinking it was one of you boys and went to help but it was her," I explained as the doors opened to Opie storming in.
"Are one of you the family of that young lady?" A very nice young nurse asked.
"I'm her brother. Our father is on his way," Opie said.
"We're doing everything we can," she said. "If you'll follow me I'll find you somewhere to wait in private."
We all nodded and headed down the hall. We sat in a small room for hours, just the four of us once Piney showed up.
"I'm gonna go see the kid," Jax said.
"Wait here," I said. "She's going to want you too when she wakes up."
"No she won't," he tried to fight back. I glared at him a little and he sat back down.
"She said she loves you. Named the three of you specifically."
All three men turned to look at me and visibly relaxed. I started telling them as much as I could about the car and the accident and trying to get her help.
Jax called Juice to get him to run the plates and find the idiot who did this to our girl.
About six hours after we arrived at the hospital, a doctor walked into the room.
"Are you all the family of (Y/N) Winston?" He asked.
"Yes," Piney said as we all nodded.
"She's stable. We put her in a coma to help her recover but she should wake up in about three days time. You can go be with her in the ICU in a few minutes. We did lose her twice before surgery and then once on the table so we aren't entirely sure about her prognosis but things are looking good. She's covered in road rash and burn from her bike. She broke a few ribs and is pretty banged up all around. Whoever taught her to ride taught her well though," he said, producing her helmet that had been shaved smooth where it hit the road.
"She's one lucky girl," he said.
"She's a stubborn girl and refuses to die doc," Opie said.
He smiled softly. "Whatever the case, we recommend someone in her family stay with her and we know how things work with SOA. I'll allow your usual guard detail in the ICU."
"Thanks doc," Piney said and we all stood up. As we walked towards her room, Jax's phone rang.
"Juice found the son of a bitch," Jax said. "Even said his car looks like it recently hit something about the size of her Harley."
"She's gonna be more pissed about her Harley than about her injuries," Opie said with a soft chuckle.
"I had Tig and Chibs go out and pick it up," I said. "You should all head out and handle him. I'll wait with our girl."
They all agreed and left as I walked into her room. She was covered in bandages and bruises. She had several tubes and machines connected to her just to keep her alive. I cried for her silently as I held her hand, just as I had done for my Thomas when he was in a coma.
