Warning: Sexual Assault
A couple hours after I'd put Alexis to bed, I got a phone call. Tristen was in the hospital after being sexually assaulted.
"I'm on my way," I said.
"No, stay home. You can't do anything here tonight," my uncle said.
"I need to be with her," I said.
"No, she doesn't want to talk about it," he said.
"That's fine but I need to be by her side," I said and hung up before he could fight me more.
I quickly threw some jeans and a hoodie on before I grabbed Alexis's bag and picked her up. I sped to the hospital and all but ran inside.
"Can I help you?" A receptionist asked.
"I'm looking for Tristen Oswald. She's my cousin," I said. She pointed me in the right direction and I quickly found my aunt and uncle talking to Clay, Gemma and Jax.
"I told you to stay home," my uncle said lowly as I walked up.
"She needs to know this isn't her fault from someone who's been there," I spat. The other eyes in the group turned to look at me.
"Just let me see her," I said. They shook their heads.
"Baby," Gemma said coming over to me. "How ya been?"
"Pretty good," I said.
"Tig won't shut up about you and her," she said.
I smiled a little, but my response didn't reflect the joy of that. "Gem, I'm really not in the mood for this."
"I've been in her shoes too. She's gonna need us. Look, my guys, they're gonna take care of him, but she needs to know she's not alone and she has people she can talk to."
"You tell Tig this asshole is mine. He'll understand."
"Baby, you aren't killing anyone," she said.
"No, but I made a promise a long time ago that anyone who took advantage of kids would lose their dick," I said. She shook her head.
"He won't let ya," she said.
"I didn't ask for permission," I said. Elliot and my aunt looked over at us as Jax and Clay were getting ready to leave.
"I'll see ya tomorrow. Gonna stop by and she how she is," Gemma said. I nodded and she hugged me quickly before she left and my aunt and uncle were walking over to us.
"If we let you in to talk to her will you go home and get some rest?" Elliot asked.
"Yeah," I said. He opened the door to the room and I handed a sleeping Alexis off to my aunt.
"Tristen baby," I said softly. She shifted and looked at me. She was clearly in pain. I held back my tears as I sat down next to her and placed my hand over hers.
"This isn't your fault," I said softly.
"Mom told me not to talk about it," she said.
"Well, as someone who's been where you are, you need to. I didn't and it hurt a lot. Pain got me in some bad places," I said. "You don't have to talk about it yet, but when you're ready, I'm here."
"Thanks," she mumbled. I tightened my grip on her hand and she looked over at me.
"I just want to sleep forever," she said. Her eyes were watering.
"How about we start with sleeping tonight," I said. "I'll be back in the morning to check on ya."
"Thanks," she said again.
"Get some rest Tris," I said. She nodded and closed her eyes. I stood up a couple minutes later and headed out of the room.
I took Alexis from my aunt and swayed a little as I hugged her. "Tristen needs rest. She also needs to be free to talk about what happened to her. I wasn't and it damn near killed me."
"This isn't up for debate."
I glared at my aunt. "I never said it was. I just want you to think about how bottling this up affected me before you push her to do the same."
I turned to walk away and my aunt grabbed my arm.
"You won't see her again if you keep pushing this," she said. I tore my arm away and walked out. Tig was leaning against my car when I got outside.
"Come here," he said, pulling me into a hug. He could always tell when something was wrong and I guess that never changed.
"Gemma gave me the message so I figured I'd come check on you," he said.
"They don't want her talking about it at all. Told me I'd never see her again if I encouraged her to talk about it," I said, steadying my breathing.
"I'm sorry," he said softly. I shook my head a little.
"She needs to and if it saves her and costs our relationship then so be it I guess. I'd rather her be alive and not talking to me than kill herself over this," I said.
"We'll find the bastard who did this," he said.
"I have no doubt," I said. "I should probably get Alexis home."
"Want a tail. Make sure you get there safe?"
"Do I get a choice?"
"I'd respect your no," he said.
"You'd send Juice or a new Prospect," I said. He nodded a little. "Then tail me."
He nodded and I got Alexis into her car seat so we could head home.
