"Ugh..damn it!"

Pheonix was doing significantly worse without Maya. Now that he was completely alone, his thoughts wandered.

"Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth chooses death."

With that note, Edgeworth left forever.
After all of those years, becoming a lawyer just to see Edgeworth again.....

He finally found him.

Pheonix put his head onto his desk, his eyes beginning to tear up

He groaned in pain "The trial resumes tommorow. I can't wait to get whipped and verbally abused by Franziska" Pheonix muttered to himself, rolling his eyes "I'd rather go against you."

"I'm wishing you were somehow here again."

At this point, there wasn't much point trying to get any sleep. He'd stayed up the night before, going over the court documents. "If i mess up Maya could get hurt, or worse..."

Pheonix was still wearing his iconic blue suit, although now it was incredibly wrinkled. He looked like a first-year law student

He let himself fall on the bed, not bothering to take off his suit

"I wonder if Maya is alright..."

He blinked rapidly, desperately trying to keep his tears in. It wasn't the time to cry "I need to be brave for Maya. It's no use crying over the dead if i can't protect the living."

Pheonix was standing at the defense stand
He had been waiting for a while.
The prosecutor stand was empty.

Suddenly, the doors swung open

"Bailif? Can't you see were in a trial-"

"The prosecutor, Miss Von Karma has been shot!"

"Oh dear."

"Luckily, there has been a last minute case-transfer"

In walked in a familiar individual in his bright red suit and with his cravat tied elegantly around his neck.

"E-Edgeworth?!" Pheonix though he was hallucinating

Edgworth
Too calm.

Almost as if he was mocking Pheonix for being sad, for missing him..Almost as if disappearing for a year after leaving a suicide note was something you could casually return from

"Apologies for the wait. I will be taking Miss.Von Karma's place."

"Well, then...I suppose that's alright. Is the defense ready?"

"...yes your honour"

"Well then. Please, will the prosecution make the opening statement?"

The trial seemingly continued on as normal, but the athmosphere was off. Instead of a heated debate it was a one-sided, desperate show put on by Wright

"The defendant could not have been the one in that costume!"

"Objection! It's perfectly plausable to assume that the one in that costume is Matt Engarde. Compose yourself Wright."

"Objection! Pretty bold of you to say that after everything, Edgeworth. The person was clearly holding the costume up. That proves that he was not tall enough to naturally wear it."

"It appears that the witnesses testimony is unreliable. I demand the mystery identity of the man be investigated! This trial will be postponed." The judge banged his gravel

"No! But...Maya" Pheonix's voice sounded shaky, full of fear. It wasn't his usual reaction to a trial being postponed

Edgeworth was caught off guard.

As he walked out of the courtroom, he looked over at Wright.

He was still at the defense stand, digging his nails into the hard wood.

"Mr.Wright? The trial is over." The judge was getting out of his post

"Y-Yes your honor."

He exited the room, staring at the ground

Edgeworth was alive.
Maya could be dead.

"Wright. What's the matter with you? You look awful." Edgeworth said, eyeing him up and down

"You're asking me?! I'm not the one who "died" and then came back with no explanation!"

"It is true. The man I used to be is dead. I went to find what it means....to be a prosecutor."

"You could have called!"

"I did not wish to communicate with anyone."

"You absolute prick! I can't belive this. You stuck up jerk." Tears were forming in Pheonix's eyes

"......." Edgeworth's annoyed expression faded. He looked hurt.

Pheonix couldn't ignore Edgeworth's expression.

"Making me feel sorry again....jeez."

Edgeworth looked away.

"Maya was kidnapped. The kidnapper said he would kill her if the trial didn't wrap it up today."

"I'm sure he was just....bluffing. I'll do anything in my power to save her. I do not wish her to suffer." Edgeworth looked determined "Maya is a bright girl. I'm sure she's doing alright."

"You're here again, somehow." Phoenix said, stepping closer

"For good, this time." He responded
