Kabal x Wounded Reader (P.2)

*Johnny's POV*

I pushed the door open with all my might, stepping into the room. Everyone had gone silent, them all just staring wordlessly at me. The whole room had gone silent.
-"Please tell me you managed to save her," I said, wanting to rush past everyone and take a look myself. But I knew I needed to distance myself from her. It was difficult, as of she felt like a sister to me. She had been my best friend both in training and in work through the last 5 years. She meant the world to me.

-"We managed to save her again. But we fear that this is the last time. Her body's focusing pretty hard on battling the infection, and getting rid of her blood poisoning was difficult. Her heart is tired, and we won't be surprised if it stops again now. This is the fourth time we bring her back on two weeks. Let's be realistic. All the wounds... her body doesn't know what to heal. It's too much. Normally she should have woken up from the coma by now, but, yeah, I don't know," the surgical chief said, scratching his head. I could hear the nervousness in his voice. He didn't know if she would pull through.

-"Okay, just let me know when she wakes up... or flatlines for good," I said quickly. I spun around and made my way back out, feeling overwhelmed by the whole situation. I inhaled deeply, aware that I couldn't shed a tear without being watched by someone. I wouldn't exactly mind if anyone saw me fell a tear for her, but I didn't want them to think I had gone soft. They needed strong leaders.

On my way out of the medical bay, I spotted Sonya. And when she saw me back, she hurried up to me.
-"How is she doing?" Sonya asked, staring at me with her hawk stare.
-"Did you make any contact?" I asked, avoiding her question. She knew damn well how she was doing. And she could quickly go check on her, ask for an update.
-"I asked you a question about our colleague, and some of us don't have the time to visit her as often as you," Sonya snapped.

I gave her a hard stare, letting her know that it was not okay. She knew we had a mission to do, and that we needed to prioritise it. Sonya sighed, crossing her arms.
-"No, no contact yet. I think they got him," Sonya said, shrugging her shoulders.
-"Shit... We need to send a team out as soon as possible to find him. If she wakes up and find out what we've done, she'll kill us, even in the state she's in now. She's lost enough already for her to handle right now. Ask if anyone wants to join us. We leave tonight," I said, turning around.

I made my way back from where I came, walking into the medical bay once again. I made my way into (Y/n)'s room, settling down in the chair beside her bed.
I let my eyes rest on her peaceful face, seeing that they had taken her off the respirator. Curiosity hit me, and I reached for her journal. I let my eyes fly over the words, seeing that she could finally breathe on her own now. I smiled, seeing it as a sign that she was getting better. She had to be, to be able to breathe on her own.

Hopefully everything would be alright before she woke up, so she didn't have to suspect a thing. But I didn't know what was happening outside our borders right now. I had not really joined any missions lately, not cared about them or their current state. All I cared about was her. Her wellbeing, knowing that she would make it. I needed to hear her side of the story, and not only Kabal's. Something about his story didn't seem right, but I couldn't possibly know yet. Not until I had investigated fully.

I sighed as I put the journal back, placing her hand in mine. I settled down in the chair again, taking in her peaceful face.
The gash she had on her cheek had healed over the two weeks, but it had not healed as fine as I had hoped. Given the depth of the cut, the scar tissue had grown a lot. I knew she wouldn't mind, but I did. Whenever something didn't go perfect with her, I always blame myself. Because I could have done a better job for her.
I sighed deeply, closing my eyes. I laid my head down to rest on the bed with her.
