𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 . . . seventeen's :: wang meiling

seventeen have recently made their comeback "fml" with double title tracks "super" and "fxck my life." seventeen are known for many things other than being all rounders, such as their close relationship with carats, their fans.

meiling, the only female member of seventeen, has a weverse live every tuesday she can. she titled this series "meiling's sentimental time" in which she allows fans to ask her personal questions, gives advice, and speaks about her hardships.

on her most recent live, today, she opened up about what it's like being the only female member. here is what she said.

" you know, when i first was offered my position in seventeen i didn't expect my role to be that emphasized. i thought i would just be another member and i wouldn't be anything special because of my gender. obviously now, i realize that i was stupid to think that, but yeah. i'm not really sure how to explain it— there's like these constant thoughts in my head, "would seventeen be more popular if i weren't in it?" or "am i holding them back from their full potential?" because i'm sure there are many people who wanted to get into seventeen, saw me, and turned away. and also, choreographies. the members and choreographers tell me multiple times that the dances are not made easier for me, but i always ask myself if subconsciously they make it slightly easier. i don't know. "

she moved on from the topic but returned to it after a fan asked her more about it. here's what she said.

" i guess i'm afraid of being a 'wallpaper woman.' i'm not sure if that makes sense, but i just want to add something to seventeen other than diversity. because what's the point of me being here if i can't make the group better, you know? so my fear is that my existence isn't helping them and is just holding back. oh! someone just asked me this, whenever i say "i wish i was in a girl group" most of the time i'm joking but sometimes i'm not. don't misunderstand, i love the seventeen boys more than i love anybody else in this world, but i wonder if these thoughts would go away if i was surrounded by other women. because at least then i would be able to relate to them because well, they're girls. it's hard for me to talk about feminine problems to the members because they're obviously, men. i guess the double standard also plays a large part in my insecurities. there are many things i'm hesitant to do as to not get us into a scandal, knowing that it would only be a scandal because i'm a girl. "

she stopped talking about her hardships for a moment as her fiancé and fellow member, s.coups, walked in. they talked for a while but she finally returned to the subject for the last time during the live.

" i'm able to keep going because of the members. every time i'll talk to one of them about a worry of mine they're always able to comfort me and push me to do my best. i don't think i would be able to continue if i was the only girl in any other group. so you guys should thank them. really, i mean it. "
