CHAPTER 15

“Happiest Birthday to my favorite best friend!”

I slightly chuckled at what Shiela said. I am currently getting ready for school today as I talk to her on the phone.

Today is my birthday, my 17th birthday to be exact. Both my parents agreed to only held the party this coming Saturday since I have a class today. It was fine with me though. Even without any grand parties, I will be fine with it. In this age of mine I'm not really a fan of big and grand parties but since I can't say no to Mom and Dad in this, we are gonna hold one on the weekends instead.

“I am your only best friend Shie,” natatawang sabi ko habang naghahanda nang maligo.

“Sabi ko nga eh,” natatawang sabi niya. “Anyway, I just really call to greet you a happy birthday.”

“Thank you so much, Shiela.”

“I love you, Gie. I'll get ready for school na,” she said.

“Okay, bye.” I said then ended the call.

I am on my wide smile as I get ready for school. I am looking forward to this day, hope this is a lucky one.

When I went downstairs Mom and Dad greeted a happy birthday. Kuya Damon is also the one who took me to school. While on his car, I took my phone out and texted Brent not to fetch me anymore.

Nang dumating ako sa school ay wala pa naman masyadong estudyante roon. Maaga pa naman kasi. Even Sharmaine and Rona are still not here. Baka mamaya pa 'yong dalawa na 'yon.

I decided to just spend some of my time in the canteen. I opened my Facebook account and updated my status as I add up another year today. Pagkatapos ay tumayo na muna ako at saka bumili muna ng makakain. I suddenly got so hungry.

Busy ako sa pagkain ng macaroni soup na binili ko ng may biglang magsalita ng may gilid ko.

“Happy Birthday.”

Bahagyang umawang ang labi ko ng makita si Zach na nakatayo sa may gilid ko habang nakangiti. Hawak niya ang bag sa isang kamay habang nakalagay naman sa bulsa niya ang isa.

“It's your birthday, right?” Tanong niya at saka naupo sa may harapan ko.

Bahagyang nangunot ang noo ko. How did he know? Pero kahit na nagtataka ay tipid akong ngumiti at saka tumango.

“Yeah,” nagaalangan na sagot ko.

He chuckled slightly.
“I saw your update in facebook,” he stated and showed me the screen of his phone.

My mouth form into an 'o'. I smiled at him.

“Thank you,” nakangiting sabi ko sa kaniya.

“A macaroni soup for your birthday?” Nakataas ang kilay na tanong niya.

Napanguso ako at saka nagbaba ng tingin sa kinakain.

“Ajero isn't spoiling you huh?” Nakangising tanong niya.

Natigilan ako at saka napatitig sa kaniya. I pursed my lips then averted my gaze. I don't think Brent knows that it's ny birthday today. I didn't tell him yesterday about it. Besides, it's not like he needs to know about it.

I just smile at Zach and chose not to say anything.

“Anyway, I'll get going now,” he said then stood up.

I just nod my head and force a smile.
“Sure, thanks again Zach.”

Kumaway lang siya ng bahagya bago tuluyang naglakad palabas ng canteen.
