9. Happiness is a myth

'Get going guys, keep searching, we have to act fast because the patient's life is degrading day by day.'

Abhimanyu was constantly keeping tabs on Kaustab's heart transplant requirements, his heart was failing every day and very soon they'd require a matching heart for him. The rare part was the kid was AB-, a blood group which was rare and finding matching blood for him was already hard, forget the heart.

But he had to try his best.

Because he was his youngest patient yet and even though he probably wasn't emotionally attached to the kid, he still wanted the kid to live. Everyone deserves a chance to live. He didn't want death to factor his mind again, after all he was immune to the idea of dying and of death.

He practically faced death and the after effects of it, he had felt the pain, the emptiness, the slowly enveloping darkness and the light disappearing for a long time. He knew how it felt to be on the other end of death, to cry unbearably, to get consoled and yet feel no consolation, to be cheered yet not happy.

Death broke his heart in million pieces.

So after a long time of grieving and mourning and long screams of despair, Abhi carefully, piece by piece and in very dire circumstances, joint his heart together. He knew he had to do it, he had to move on and he did. He very bravely, very daringly marched forward in life, never to look back. That was the moment he had decided that if he could overcome death, he could fear nothing.

No pain could ever break him again.

And that zealous decision made him choose to be a heart surgeon, to help piece everyone's hearts too, so they could in some way be able to stand up and fight for them. And honestly, he was happier by the faces of the family members who thanked him rather than his success rate or the hefty amount they drop for the tedious surgeries.

But, recently, things were changing.

His heart was functioning in a very funny way.

The thought about a risky heart transplant always linked him to the very anxious girl who touched his palm, asking for a simple thing which he would have done anyway. But ever since she did that, ever since she looked him in the eyes and held his hand, her eyes yearning for a good cry, her hand cold as snow, and her smile fading for a worry, ever since that, his heart was working differently.

Abhimanyu was well versed with all three, his very tactical and brilliant brain, his powerful and strong willed mind and his weak, useless heart who often put him in miserable conditions.

And he knew this was the way his heart was working, keeping him on his toes, unfocused and to some extent, overbearing and flustered.

He never really felt like this in a long time and he knew that if this continued, he would soon be jobless. After all, him being heartless had actually helped him fix everyone else's hearts. But if his heart, his emotions and those blurry attachment feelings touched his senses again, then it was game over for him.

So he decided the next best thing to do.

Cut all contacts with Miss Akshara Goenka.

'Aru ka belated birthday aa raha hai?' Vansh excitedly popped out from the kitchen, burgers in both his hands as he joined Kairav and Akshara on the sofa. 'What are you guys gonna gift her?'

Kairav was drinking tea and Akshara had her coffee ready, they were also discussing what they could do to celebrate Aru's 26th birthday.

Arohi had turned 26 the month before, but since she was held up with her patients the entire day, she suggested they could skip it for this year. But the Goenkas didn't want Arohi to not celebrate her birthday because she was the only one who loved celebrations and the Goenkas needed some happy days and hence they suggested to shift it a month ahead and everyone agreed.
