TENOCHTITLAN - 1521

THE GREAT CAPITAL of the Aztec Empire was under attack from the Spanish. Innocents lives were ended all around the brown-haired immortal girl who ran around the city searching. Delphi wished to help the Aztec people but she knew she was not allowed to do such things - it was one of Arishem's orders.

Deafening cries for help flooded the burning city, people desperately sprinted for their lives. Chasing many of them were the Spanish invaders on horseback ready to either kill or enslave the population. Roaring fires and lifeless bodies littered the chaotic streets. Flashes of light from guns cast vicious shadows on the fallen Aztec structures. Invaders plundered abandoned homes, thieving any gold or valuable looking items. A little girl - no older than eight - scurried through the shadows, hoping to remain unseen. Delphi recognised the young child, her name escaped her at the moment but she knew her to be a joyful often troublesome child. Now the girl looked petrified, her clothes were singed, dark soot coated her cheeks. It seemed one of the other attackers also noticed the young girl. Rearing his horse up, the man was near the girl, weapons poised to attack, before Delphi could comprehend what was happening.

"No!" The Eternal cried out, leaping into action, "leave her be." She commanded in his mother tongue, her sudden appearance frightened the horse. Violently, the man was bucked off the animal, which instantly ran away, landing poorly on the rocky ground. Grunting in fury, his dark, beady eyes peered down at the petite girl, who had jumped to the young child, a disgusted look on his tanned face. Terrified, the small girl - who had shrunk further into the shadows - crept away, thankful one of the Eternals had stepped in to save her. The others were, much to the horror of the people of Tenochtitlan, nowhere to be found; they were not protecting them.

A hard strike echoed through the dense air. Delphi's head was thrown to the side as a result of the heavy force, a throbbing pain bloomed in her cheek. "How dare you, you filthy..." the disgruntled invader drew his loaded gun as he yelled but was unable to continue attacking Delphi. A blur knocked him to the ground, rendering him unconscious. Makkari had swept Delphi into her arms and ran past the misery which was ensuing around them.

Quickly, the pair made it into the woods, which was lit up by the firing of the Spanish guns. A little way away from where the massacre was taking place her fellow Eternals, with solemn faces, looked at the two girls. 'What happened?' Delphi signed to Makkari rapidly upon seeing Thena on the floor unconscious surrounded by the others. Blue eyes flicked between her fellow immortals. Makkari looked away shamefully, Sersi and Ikaris were deep in a conversation, Sprite turned away like the deaf speedster, Kingo and Phastos were stood to the side also avoiding eye contact. Gilgamesh knelt beside Thena, an expression of concentrated concern on his face as he glanced at the Goddess of War. Druig leaned against a tree with an irritated face, which softened upon seeing the brunette's fallen face. Delphi repeated her question pleadingly: "what happened?"
