You're Doing Great Out There Without Me, Baby, God, I Wish That I Could Do That

The dinner had gone mostly well, for now. Hoseok hadn't said a word about what happened with Hyungwon, who was presently sitting right in front of him, picking at his plate silently, earlier to anyone, and didn't count on doing so. The ambiance was a bit weird, but he was sure that was just in his head because everything was going super well. At the end of the table, Jooheon and Changkyun were arguing about what type of Monster was the best flavor, and though Hoseok wanted to laugh at the silliness, Kihyun suddenly asked him a question.

"So, how's it going with your girl?"

Oh, shit. He hadn't thought about that at all. He didn't really feel like telling what happened, even though he hated lying to his friends. Well, one time wouldn't hurt...He'd tell them the truth later anyway…

"I-It's going...Okay, I guess. Not the best situation but we're holding on. What about y'all? Are any of you dating somebody?"

Okay, so, Hyungwon knew it was childish and pissy and he would have usually never settled for such behavior. But this wasn't usual; This was Hoseok, his ex he was still in love with, talking about his present girlfriend. Sure, the situation didn't seem to be perfect, and that kinda made Hyungwon happy, but he was still hurt. It was stupid, but...He wanted Hoseok to hurt the way he did if he only cared at all. Or just to show he was moved on(which he wasn't). This hurt so bad.

"I do."

Kihyun instantly looked at him with the most confused look ever, but Hyungwon discarded it and made up total bullshit.

"Yeah, sorry, I wanted to keep it a bit but…"

And he smiled. A fake smile that still seemed to bother Hoseok. Because indeed, the boy absolutely didn't expect to hear such a thing so soon. Sure, they had broken up two years ago, but...This hurt like hell. It was like getting punched, knowing that Hyungwon had moved on and was happy with someone else. Probably happier than he was with those empty relationships, ones he used to fill the void created by Hyungwon's absence. That was also probably why the visual avoided him since he arrived, and that hurt even more. Any hope he had to get back with his ex, to finally hug him and tell him just how much he missed him...It was gone, and Hoseok felt himself swallow difficulty. He just couldn't bear to think that he had truly lost any chance ever with the only guy, hell, the only person he ever loved this much.

So he just ate the last bite of his meal and declared in a shaky breath, eyes moving all over:

"Hey, uhm, guys...Gotta go to the bathroom…"

And once in there, disregarding the weird look both Changkyun and Hyunwoo sent him when he got up, it was with no surprise that Hoseok sank down on the ground and started crying. He knew this was bad and selfish, yet he couldn't help the way his heart pulsed painfully. He had cried his eyes out the day he left his ex-girlfriend, both because he felt guilty and because he also was tired of pretending. Breaking up with Hyungwon had been the worst decision of his fucking life and he regretted it so much; yet, what could he do? Scream at the man, begging for him to take him back? Absolutely not. He wouldn't do any of these things, but it didn't hurt any less. Although Hoseok couldn't help but think that this was deserved. He had just been hurt the way he actually hurt Hyungwon the day he left him per text. It was probably deserved, but fuck did it hurt and Hoseok couldn't even breathe properly. He was crying all his tears, and that was fucking pathetic. He was sad, angry, and many things he couldn't really express or describe.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, everyone was doing the dishes. Hyungwon was standing next to Minhyuk, and he just had to get him to agree to his stupid idea. He was panicking at the simple idea of Minhyuk denying him; he couldn't back himself up. He had to have a bit of help.

"Please, please, please, back me up, Minhyuk! I'll do whatever you want, uh, I'll...Buy you that whale plushie you wanted!"

His voice was barely above a whisper, but Minhyuk raised an eyebrow. He had been trying to get him to agree for the last two minutes, and he was on his last ideas.

"Well, you're making it hard to resist. I don't have to kiss you, though, right?"

"No! No, of course not. Ah, thank you!"

Well, okay. Maybe it was dumb to beg your best friend to act as if he's dating you in front of your ex of two years just because you don't wanna look like a loser who hasn't actually moved on(which he was), but what could he do? He wanted Hoseok to think that he had been able to live his life too, that he had found someone new and was happy. He wasn't some kind of loser who still kept pinning on Hoseok even after all this time! Ahah, no, of course not, he was happy, just like Hoseok!

Okay, maybe the visual was glad that Minhyuk didn't comment on how lame this whole plan of his actually was. Yeah, he was pretty glad of that.

And while he tried to make himself believe that shit, Minhyuk smiled. He was happy to finally get that plushie he had been waiting for for some time and therefore moved happily to put the plates in their place. It just left space for Kihyun, who had been hearing the bullshit, to settle next to Hyungwon discreetly. Then, he whispered in his ear;

"What the fuck? Hyungwon, I know you're lying. You're single as fuck."

"I'm not!"

Hyungwon knew it was weak as hell. He also knew Kihyun knew he was lying, but that didn't stop him from trying. Even though he knew Kihyun wasn't dumb enough to believe him.

"You are. I saw you crying over a romantic drama while eating Hyunwoo's ice cream!"

Oh no. This was so embarrassing.

"Shut up, it was just very emoti-"

Just as he started speaking, Hoseok came back into the kitchen, with weirdly a-bit-swollen eyes. Hyungwon noticed it, but didn't really pay any mind because what could have happened? Hoseok wasn't a disappointment like him. He just finished drying his plate, just as Hyunwoo exclaimed:

"Now that our bodybuilder is back, how about we watch a movie all together?"

"Yes! Can I pick it??"

Jooheon seemed eager to pick the movie, and both boys found that cute. He was just like a little kid, which was an adorable sight. And of course, Hyungwon thought Jooheon was adorable, but what was even more adorable was the sight of Hoseok laughing, probably because of what Hyunwoo called him. His heart even did a somersault, because that fucker isn't able to not get involved, and that somehow hurt even more. Hoseok's smile was his utter weakness, was, will, and had always been, and he wasn't really sure of how much more time the dancer could spend around Hoseok like that.

"Sure, honey. Go ahead."

And as the boys slowly went to the living room, Hoseok took his chance to plaster a fake smile on his face and pat Hyungwon's back lovingly. "I'm happy for you, Wonnie, you deserve it," he exclaimed with the darkest smile he could muster.

That was what a good friend would do, right?

But Hyungwon just saw that as another confirmation that he was the only idiot still in love with his ex. Therefore, the boy smiled and awkwardly let out a little "thanks" before also quickly going to the living room.

He fucking hated how much of a mess he became every time Hoseok was around. Screw him for being so happy, Hyungwon would show him that he didn't need him too, even if it was false.
