I was not even 16 when you took most confidence in me
Left me without the closure I need
I wanted to find the answer
Was it because of me?
Tried convincing my mother that I made the right choice
I have my own voice
But I bored you and my flames are dead, thanking the fire hose

Went to a small shack and kept the river only for my eyes
It took several months for me to get by
Found another fake Fourth of July
Was it because of me?
Years have gone and I cried when my mother almost cried that night too
If she also cried before then, that makes us two
Gave you my trust but what did you do?
Was it because of me too?
