Y/n let out a sigh. This should have been an easy mission without any trouble. "Sneak into the hideout unnoticed, retrieve the documents and get out." That was the instruction given to her by the Hokage Kakashi Hatake. Everything went as it should have except for one thing: Y/n didn't go unnoticed. The female shinobi wasn't careful enough and therefore walked straight into a trap as she tried to leave. A stabbing pain in her chest reminded the shinobi of her cracked ribs with every step, overshadowing the pain of the cuts, that she had received during the fight with four enemy shinobi.

Pain, that was all the kunoichi could feel right now. After getting a few kilometers away from the place where the fight took place Y/n felt save enough to let herself fall against a tree and rest.

"A medical-nin would come in very handy right now." The kunoichi thought as she took care of her open wounds and tried her best to secure her ribs so they wouldn't sting so bad anymore. Being satisfied with her results, Y/n let her head fall back until it hit the tree and looked at the sky. The sun already started setting but a few sunrays managed to reach Y/n's face and she could feel the warmth they were bringing along.

The shinobi couldn't help but smile at the thought of this day finally ending but her mood changed rather quickly. Until now she was too occupied with aftermath of her stupidity and therefore didn't think of the consequences that were waiting for her in Konoha.

On one side, a disappointed Hokage who was going to lecture her about how "a ninja must see through deception". The kunoichi could already hear his voice. On the other side her boyfriend, who was always worried sick if she got hurt, especially if it's in a fight. But him being the Hokage, Y/n hated the thought of making him worry about yet another thing. Additionally, the shinobi couldn't help but to worry herself if Kakashi would stop her from going on more dangerous missions from now on. What if he thought she couldn't handle it?

"Ugh, it was so much easier when Kakashi and the Hokage were two different people" Y/n whispered to herself.

The kunoichi had to think of something to explain her injuries without mentioning the fight. Maybe Y/n could visit a medical-nin before seeing the Hokage. Then it wouldn't look that bad anymore. Did falling off a tree end with these kinds of injuries? But who would be dense enough to believe that?

The kunoichi kept pondering which excuse was the best until the sun had disappeared completely, and the night had begun. Y/n decided there was no use in rushing back to the village and it was better to take this night to rest some more. So, she prepared her sleeping-back and with a lot of pain managed to slip in.

The next day the female shinobi made her way back to the village. It took her a lot longer than normal but, in the end, she managed to arrive in the late afternoon, but instead of going directly to the Hokage's office, like she usually would, Y/n made her way to another member of Team 7. Sakura Haruno.

"I didn't think I'd see you today, Y/n. Do you need something?" the pink haired girl said when she spotted the shinobi leaning at the entrance with a hand on her stomach.

Y/n gave her a little embarred smile "Well, could you maybe take a look at my injuries? I think I cracked a few ribs and well..."

"You don't want Kakashi to worry?" Sakura said and pointed at a chair nearby. Y/n nodded and sat down. Sakura started healing the kunoichi's injuries as good as possible while Y/n told her the real reason she was hurt this badly. It took longer than Y/n expected, but in the end the kunoichi felt much better than before. The pain was still there, but she could finally walk straight again.

"Hey, Sakura! Can you..." A yellow haired boy said walking into the room. He stopped when he saw Y/n pulling down her shirt to cover the bandages.

"Wow what happened to you?" Naruto said astonished.

"Uhm...I fell down a tree." The shinobi answered an immediately regretting what she said. 'Dammit that wasn't what you came up with, Y/n' she thought. She was so caught off guard, that she totally blacked out. Sakura look a little surprised that the kunoichi lied, but Naruto didn't even notice a thing.

"Ha! That happened to me too. Last week I accidentally oversaw a tree and smacked into it. Man, that hurt." The teenage boy said.

"You did?" Y/n said, seriously questioning if he actually was the kid that saved the village on numerus occasions. Luckily, she managed to gather herself before Naruto noticed and went to leave.

"Well, kids it was fun chatting, but I think someone awaits my report. See ya! Oh, and thanks again, Sakura, for patching me up." The shinobi said waving at the two.

With that Y/n made her way over to Kakashi's office. Now that Naruto thought she smashed into a tree she couldn't just tell Kakashi another lie. The only thing she could do was hope he believed her. The kunoichi knocked on the office door but didn't wait for an answer before entering. Kakashi sat at his desk with stacks of paper around him, looking confused as to who would enter the room without his approval.

"Missed me, Lord Sixth?" She said with a cheerful smile, making her way over to the Hokage. Recovering from his initial shock Kakashi started scanning his girlfriend from head to toe counting the visible bandages. He stood up and came over to where she was leaning against a chair.

"What did you do? Did you get into a fight?" He said while putting his hands on either side of her shoulder to get a better look.

"Relax, nothing exciting happened." Y/n said pausing for a second seeing Kakashi's concerned look. The man in question shot her a stern look, raising his eyebrows.

"It doesn't look like nothing."

"I might have smacked against a tree." The kunoichi stated but it sounded more like a question. Kakashi managed to raise his eyebrows even higher.

"You did?" The Hokage said, seriously questioning if she actually was the woman he fell in love with, that had beaten him numerous times in one-on-one combat.

"Please tell me you don't actually think I'm dumb enough to believe that."

"Naruto did." Y/n said knowing that didn't prove the point.

Kakashi gave a small laugh and let his handy fall to Y/n's hips. However, his concerned look returned when he heard his girlfriend wincing with pain. He immediately yanked his hands back and apologized.

"No, I'm sorry. I don't want to concern you with these kinds of things, Kakashi. You have enough stuff to worry about." Y/n said. She put her hand on his cheek, feeling the cloth that covered half of his face.

"Me being the Hokage doesn't mean that you have to go out of your way to pretend everything is fine." Kakahsi said but saw Y/n was still in doubt. "It also doesn't mean that I'm going to ban you from going on missions if you get hurt in a fight, you know. I mean it was four against one."

"How did you...? Sakura that snitch." Y/n snarled.

"It was Pakkun actually. He overheard your conversation with Sakura and told to me." Kakashi explained and Y/n decided Pakkun wouldn't get any cuddles for at least a month. Half a month maybe, he was pretty cute.

"It's good to know you didn't hit a tree." Kakashi tried lightening the mood.

The kunoichi started smiling again and looked up into his eyes. "Oh please. You know, it's a good thing you didn't believe me. Honestly I don't know what I would have done if you actually thought I was capable of accidentally hitting a tree."

They both laughed but stopped immediately as a sharp pain shot through Y/n's stomach. Kakashi quickly grabbed her elbows to stabilize her.

"Maybe no joke for the next few days, yeah?" The female shinobi said exhausted.

"Yeah, that might be the best."
