The Internship

Jhoana

"Nobody in this company needs to be told twice." Jhoana feels irritated. Her new assistant did not give her a heads up that today is the interview with their interns. She wasn't prepared at all when she entered the M TOWER. Her law firm is occupying the whole 8th to 10th floor of one of the tallest buildings in the metro. Maraguinot building is owned by her father but she's doing all her best to stay out of his shadows, thus making her own name in the legal field. 

"Ilang beses ko na sinabi sayo na lagi mong uunahin ang schedule ni boss Jhoana. "  Pangaral ni Trey sa bagong assistant na si Vanie. 

"I'm sorry, andami kasing meetings nya kahapon, halos wala pakong maalala sa mga binilin nya." Vanie reasoned out. 

Jhoana went straight to the board room where Ella and Jema are waiting. They will do the deliberation of the credentials for the new interns that will enter their law firm. 

Jema started the projector screen and scanned the profiles one by one. Jhoana wasn't an easy person to impress. She has a very high standard when it comes to the academic achievements of the interns. She values their previous background works and each applicant should pass the rigid series of exams before even getting considered. 

"Do you have any demands in particular boss Jhoana? We can classify the applicants according to their strengths and weaknesses, academic standing, and previous work experience prior to entering law school." Ella said while scanning the folders in front of her. 

"Good idea Atty De Jesus. Give your best 5 applicants, and same with you Atty. Galanza. Maybe I can spend some time this afternoon and scan their credentials. Do you have any doubts or clarifications or anything that needs my attention within those applications?"

"Yes, actually. This applicant is being offered a slot in Gumabao's and Buitre's but she is still applying here with us. Santos, from Standius Law School. Preferred ko sya sa top 5 ko, kaya lang baka naman piliin nya na yung may straight offer, masayang oras natin sakanya?" Jema said. 

"Ay ako din,merong ganyan. Eto, si De Leon from Standius Law." Ella added.

Jhoana smirked at what she heard. Gumabao and Buitre's are two of their top competitors in the industry. The top students must be promising that's why these law firms are offering them slots right away. 

"Of course, take them in. We would not want our competitors to get what they want. " A devilish smile crept her face. Same with Ella and Jema. 

After a few more minutes, Jhoana is headed for her next court meeting. The rest of the went so fast because of her usual loaded schedule. She couldn't pass on load works to other lawyers because they are ALL heavily loaded. That's the very reason why they are getting 10 interns this year instead of 5. 

Around 8pm na nang lumabas si Jhoana ng building, kasabay sila Ponggay at Jema and the rest of her team. Pagod na sya kaya dumeretso sya sa kotse and nagdrive pauwi sa condo nya. 

She ordered take out along the way at nagpagdesisyonan nyang sa condo na sya kakain. 

Pagkatpos nyang maglinis ng katawan at gawin ang night rituals nya ay binalikan nya ang folders ng mga applicants knina. Lahat naman ay pasado sya standards nya. So wala namang problema.

Bukas ay Wednesday, ibig sabihin ay court day nilang lahat. Kaya pukpukan ang laban sa kani kanilang mga kaso. 

Nagcheck pa sya ng ilang mga trabaho bago tuluyan ng natulog. 

Bea

Nakapag submit na ako ng mga credentials sa JLM Law Firm. Mabuti nalang at hindi ako nahirapan kahit na papano ay nakapag aral ako. Sobrang hirap ng exam pero sulit naman kapag nakapasok ako as intern. 

I got offered both by Gumabao and Buitre Law firms a sure lot in their company but I am thinking of declining it, for a reason that I will never reveal to anyone. Si Maki lang ang nakakaalam, yan ang kung natatandaan nya pa. 

After ko sa M Tower where JLM is located, nagtaxi ako papuntang SM Megamall para bumili ng mga kakailanganin ko for internship. I'm wondering why Maki is nowhere to be found, samantalang sya pa yung nagmamadaling ayusin lahat ng to dahil after 48 hours ay may decision na agad ang law firms for their new set of interns. Ganun lang kabilis. 

Pumasok ako ng bookstore para bumili ng bagong pens and planners. I am a type of person who writes down everything para wala akong mamiss na gagawin or deadlines. 

I also went to shop boutiques at naghanap ng mga ideal na outfit. Since internship will be for a couple of months, I really need new set of clothes dahil hindi naman ako pormal na tao. Lagi lang akong naka sneakers or minsan naka chinelas lang. Sa law school lang ako natuto magsuot ng mga formal. At dahil internship na ito. I need to level up. 

After few hours, (yes matagal ako makapili minsan) nakabili din ako ng ilang pairs ng polo at pants. I also bought 2 pairs of shoes. Iniisip ko pa kung papalitan ko ung back pack ko, kasi lagi naman akong may dalang laptop kaya nkback pack talaga ako lagi. 

Sumakay na ako ng taxi pauwi dahil nagtxt na ang kapatid kong may ulam na sa bahay. 

Pag dating ko sa bahay ay nandon si Maki nakahilata sa sofa. Nkabili narin pala sya ng mga kailangan namin at nandon sya para icheck kung nakapag ayos na ako..

 Aagad ko namang sinukat yung mga dala ko at tuwang tuwa na naman si Maki dahil madami na naman daw akong babaeng mahahatak. Natawa nalang ako sa best friend ko. 

Nagbasa pa ako ng notes about internship bago ginawa ang night rituals ko.  Pagkatpos ay nagpasya na akong mahiga sa kama at matulog. 

Hayst. 2 days nalang, start na ng internship. I wonder what's waiting for me.
