Prologue
I tottered out of the gates as I felt myself gasping for breath admist my soft sobs.
I wiped the tears off my cheeks.
I couldn't let this go on. I refused to watch myself die in the hands of this man.
I clenched my fists which were still shaking a little.
I knew I was still scared.
I was confused. I had no idea of what to do.
I immediately broke down into another round of crying as I felt pain piercing through my back.
I continued to let out my tears for the next few minutes failing to notice the lingering gazes of neighbours.
I immediately stood up cleaning up my face and adjusting my white hoodie as I sprinted towards a place I considered my safe spot in the estate.
Beside the lagoon!
I just kept running without halting as I felt the breeze rush past me.
Somehow, the run made me feel a bit better.
I could now see the gates to the lagoon as I increased my pace.
“Hey, isn't that Nifemi?” I heard a familiar voice as I immediately crashed into a figure.
“Whoa!”I heard the voice again as I looked towards the person's face and I immediately recognized him.
The cause of my problems!
I just hate him, even if I'm not supposed to.
“Are you okay?” He asked me as suddenly my brain decided to pour out all the emotions I was hiding.
“Help!!” I whispered as I started weeping as he casted me a confused glance.
“What?!” He asked as he finally took out his left ear pod.
“You have to tutor me, help me study or whatever. I can't fail again” I said desperately as I clutched unto his left arm.
After just staring at me for a while, he suddenly bursted out in laughter.
“Speaking of being desperate” He snotted as laughter escaped his lips while tears trinkled from the edges of my eyes.
“I don't care if I'm desperate. I need to come in first.”I pleaded and believe me, I could hear how stupid how sounded.
“Are you asking me to step down for you? To fail on purpose?” He asked as he shook his head looking at me like I had gone bonkers.
I suddenly replayed my request in my head and realised I probably sounded like I lost my mind.
“I..... I....I'm sorry. Forget I said anything” I suddenly said with a straight face as I adjusted my white hoodie before walking towards my destination.
I could definitely still feel his eyes boring holes into my back as I chose to ignore them and his occasional scoffs.
I felt like just growing wings and flying away.
I couldn't believe I let my emotions control me and made me make a big mistake.
