Chapter Fifteen - Guilty

Serena's POV:

Serena came in third place. May came in second, and Drew came in first.

Serena looked to the crowd and saw Bonnie, Clemont, and Ash all sitting in the middle row of the crowd. They waved, and Serena waved back.

Serena smiled while walking back to the changing room with Sylveon.

"Serena!"

It was May. She was walking up to Serena with a daisy in hand, blushing ever so slightly.

"Hi, May!" Said Serena, waving to May.

May gave Serena a little wave back.

"Hey, Serena...!"

May hesitantly handed Serena the daisy.

"H-Here..." She said, now blushing a slightly darker shade of pink.

"Thank you!" Said Serena, holding the daisy.

May looked away from Serena. It looked like she was thinking about something deeply. May looked back to Serena and took a deep breath.

"I... I like you, Serena..." Said May, looking away from Serena again, blushing.

It felt like time stopped. A rush of Butterfree flew into Serena's stomach. She didn't know why. Serena is straight, and she knows that she is straight. She doesn't like May that way... She just sees May as a friend. Yes, only a friend.

"I-I'm sorry May..." Said Serena. She looked away from May, regretting what she was about to say. She didn't want to ruin their friendship like this.

"I don't feel the same way... I only like you as a friend..."

Serena saw tears form into May's eyes. She felt really guilty all of a sudden. She was never put into the position of rejecting someone, and it was hard.

"I-It's okay..." said May, trying not to cry. "I understand."

Serena nodded. "I have to go now..." She said, turning towards the door. 

Serena wasn't lying, though. She promised her friends from Kalos that she will spend some time with them.

"Bye Ma-" Serena glanced back to where May was standing, and she was gone.

Serena stared down at her shoes as she walked to the Pokémon center. She felt very guilty about rejecting May, but she did what her brain told her... Not her gut.
