You're probably wondering what happened to lead to that event, well, let me tell you, but before I do, we should start from the beginning..

"Jack! You prick!" You shouted as you threw an apple at him causing him to fall from the tree branch

"Hey! What was that for?" He asked as he sat up rubbing his forehead

"Next time, quit scaring people, you're acting like a child" you spoke as you walked away towards the center of the village located in a small town known as Burgess, Pennsylvania

"I was just playing around, Geez, take a joke" He said as he stood up and started following you

"You think scaring people by jumping out from a tree is funny?" You asked stopping to face him

"To me" he simply said making you roll your eyes as you turned back around and walk off

"Hey! Where are you going?" He asked as he ran after you

"To give these to my family" you answered holding onto the basket of all kinds of fruits

"Mind if I tag along?" He asked

"Don't seem like you would listen if I told you no anyways" you stated as he just laughed

"Fair point"

Jackson, Jackson Overland, Jack for short, that's his name, the most childish yet the most sweetest person you could ever meet, always there to lend a helping hand, and very family oriented

"But don't you have anything else to do?" You asked him causing you to stop

"Sadly yes, but I don't want to take an hour-round trip to take the goats up the mountain" he answered

Oh, but have I mentioned sometimes very dumb? I think not

"An hour?" You questioned yourself aloud

"It's my daily task, to take the goats up the mountains after everyone is done with them along with help cutting wood" Jack sighed

"It's exhausting" he continued

"Wow, I'm sure it is, especially with that long of a walk, you walk up there all by yourself?" You asked as you started walking again leaving him to follow

"Yeah, I'm used to it actually, gives me some alone time to think"

"Well at least that's something good"

"I guess.." he trailed off as you reached your cottage

You placed the basket down as you faced him

"Thanks for the walk, Jackson, I really appreciate it" you thanked him

"Do you always have to call me by that?" He then asked

"No, but I like it" you answered with a little laugh due to you knowing that he goes by the shortened version, Jack

"Anyways, I'll see you later whenever you're free, or if you will be" you then continued picking back up the basket

"Yeah, see you later" he waved as you opened the cottage door and went inside as he turned to leave

"Silly boy" you said softly to yourself after closing the door before walking into the main room of the cottage

"Hey, Sweetie" your mom greeted you as you placed the basket of fruits onto the table

"Hey mom, I'm back with some fruits, mainly just apples this time"

"That's fine, as long as they are edible, we'll be fine" she said as she started taking the fruits out of the basket and placed them into a large wooden bowl to be placed in water to cleanse them

"I overheard you talking a little to that Overland boy that was with you outside" she then said as you looked up at her

"Ah, yes, he walked with me back here" you replied

"That's sweet of him, always talking and helping everyone" she said as she picked up the basket and placed it aside

Jack has been your best friend since the beginning, years of friendship to be better, although, it can be hard when he's very popular amongst all the girls here, anything with him can cause a huge argument with others

"I guess, he's going to be busy today taking the goats up towards the mountains, also mentioned about helping to cut wood"

"Cut wood? How old is he?" She asked

"Seventeen, if I'm not mistaken" you answered

"That seems about right, minus his childish personality that makes him a little kid, most of the men here want older boys when it comes to cutting wood, it's a lot of work"

"Sounds like it, and all we do is just sit around gathering fruits, doing pottery and weave things" you sighed resting your chin on your hands as you leaned onto the table

"Honey, we do a lot more than just that, we also take care of our kids and families along with helping to take care of the animals like your friend, but you're still young, especially when it comes to family tasks"

"He's seventeen, mom, literally a few months older than me, yet he does more things than I ever do, we're more useless than those men" you pouted

"We are not useless, and it's the men's job to do the more hard working tasks that is needed to be done, we are here to support and take care of our family" she said trying to make a point

"Can't they switch around every once in a while? doesn't it get tiring doing the same thing everyday? all I ever do is pick fruits for a living" You said when your mother stared at you silently in thought as she repeatedly tapped the table with her fingers thinking before taking a breath in

"If you want to do something other than your job, then maybe you can ask that Overland boy if you could help him, after all, he does bring the goats back to the mountains all by himself and there are a dozen of them that he needs to watch over while taking them back, he could probably use some assistance" she then said when you looked at her in surprise

"Really? You would let me?" You asked

"That's if he would allow you to help, but even so, I don't want you slacking around, I'm allowing you to do so since you want to try something new, a one time thing, now you better go and search for him before he takes off, if he hasn't already, be back before dark"

"Thanks mom, love you"

And with that, you immediately made your way out of the cottage

You walked through the village looking around for him as you spotted Mary playing with some other kids around her age

Mary is Jack's little sister, the one person who he adores more than his life, no one knows what really happened to their father, they live with their mom parenting all by herself, honestly, I just think he wants to step up as a big brother and treat her like a father figure would, like I have said before, he is very family oriented

"Hey Mary, have you seen Jackson?" You asked walking up to her as she stopped running and thought for a moment

"No, but the only place's I could think of is either home or working" she finally said aloud

"Why?" She then asked

"Ah, I'm looking for him, thought to ask him a question" you answered

"If I see him then I would let him know" she said as you nodded

"Thanks" you thanked her as she just ran off to go back with the other children as you turned to leave, now on the way to their cottage
