Okay.  Lets talk about it.

Aralas.  Aragorn x Legolas. One of the most shipped headcannons in LOTR, and imo, one of the best.  Controversial? Yes.  Amazing? also yes.  do i ship it? um

SHIT YEAH

and heres why u should too.

1) Legolas clearly cared about Aragorn as way more than a friend, bc his whole mindset changed bc of him.

Let me explain. Remember when the riders of Gondor, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli included but not among them, got attacked by goblins and Aragorn fell off a cliff and "died"?  yeah.  Also remember that scene right after when Legolas asks half dead goblin on the ground where aragorn is and he says "he's dead" and legolas is all like "yOu LiE" and all that but then he sees the evenstar in the goblins hand and truly believes that aragorn is dead???? ya. thats like a super super super super important aralas moment. 

and to realize WHY and to know its true meaning, you have to dig a little deeper.

right so legolas is an elf right? hes like 2000 something years old by the time the war of the ring starts, like hes immortal and all that shit. SOO bECAUSE hes immortal, legolas doesnt really ever face death, he just doesnt understand it, he doesnt get and cant fathom death like all the other mortals in the fellowship.  this is literally orlando bloom's explanation for his character's acting when gandalf "died" in the mines of moria.  everyone else was on the ground, like crying and mourning their friend, but legolas is just standing there, and you can see how he looks so shocked and he srsly cant understand that (since ofc they all thought he was truly dead) that Gandalf is never ever coming back to them.

You can see it on his face at 1:08 or so in this video showing the fall and aftermath of the fall of Gandalf.

BUT what does this have to do with aralas???? well, everything actually.

see, when like i mentioned aragorn falls of that cliff in the midst of battle, and afterwards evryone thinks hes dead, when legolas REALIZES that hes not there and oh my god aragorn doesnt have the evenstar the goblin is right aragorn's not here oh my god aragorn is DEAD

HE DOESNT HAVE THAT SAME LOOK ON HIS FACE.

SO ESSENTIALLY THIS MEANS THAT LEGOLAS, THIS FRIGGIN ETERNAL BEING WHO HAS ZERO COMPREHENSION OF DEATH SEEING AS HES NEVER HAD TO EXPERIENCE IT CHANGED HIS WHOLE MINDSET BECAUSE OF ARAGORN.

when aragorn falls, legolas truly realizes.  He really realizes that aragorn is dead (even though obvi hes not but he doesnt know that) and i dont think people realize the AMOUNT of love he would have to have for aragorn, a mortal man hes only known for like a month and a half, for him to CHANGE  E V E R Y T H I N G  in his mind, everything he cannot understand about death in his 2000 years as an immortal.

Legolas cares about Aragorn so much that when he died, or so Legolas thought, he truly mourned, something that is pretty much impossible for elves to do unless they are in love. You can search it up if you don't believe me. Death and what it means to immortal beings like elves is something even Galadriel, Feanor, Thranduil, Elrond in their thousands of years of life could only begin to fathom.

Legolas's relationship with Aragorn was a bond tied by such a strong thing as this.  Like I said, elves always feel in excess.  They fall in love once and only once.  If their beloved does not love them back they can actually die from heartbreak.
