Ben's POV:

When I was a boy a girl went missing from town.

I'd hung out with her a few times.

She was about 5 years old.

My Dad didn't say much on the matter, just to be careful.

My Mom on the other hand was friends with the girls mother.

Her name was Olivia.

That was 10 years ago.

I don't think about her much anymore.

Her Mom passed a few years ago.

We went to the funeral.

She took her own life.

I guess the pain of losing her child got too much.

But she had another kid.

He left town after the funeral.

Dad's the sherif now.

I'm still in high school.

I'm a Junior this year.

"Hey Man! Ready to get high and play video games tonight?" My best friend Liam                            asked.

"Yeah man, but shut up we're at school."

"Whatever buzzkill. You're just mad cause your parents care."

"My Dad is a cop."

"Your Dad is the cop."

"The one with a stick up his a-"

"Mr. Barrett, what were you saying?"

"Nothing Mr. Johnson."

He just shook his head.

"Ok kids get to class, let's start this year off strong!" Mr. Johnson said to the kids who were still in the hall.

Today feels weird.

Narrator's POV:

Olivia is now 15 years old.

She's been heavily abused for the past 10 years by her captors.

She spends most of her time in a cage in the cellar.

They take her out to beat her or make her clean.

They've been gone for 2 days now.

She's had some water that they kept in her cage, but other than that she hasn't eaten for 4 days.

With the little strength she has left she's been trying to get out of her cage.

After 4 hours she manages to get out.

The dogs in the cages surrounding her started to bark and growl at her.

She knows if they come back and see she's missing they'll send the dogs after her.

She had tried running once before.

It didn't end well.

She got out of the cellar to see she was in the middle of a forest.

She started to run.

She didn't know where she was going, but she was hoping it'd lead to people.

Eventually she found a road.

She walked along this road for about 2 hours before she reached town.

When she got to town she was stopped by the Sheriffs car.

Nick's POV:

I got a call saying a young girl didn't look so good walking through town.

"Hey sweetheart. Are you ok?"

She couldn't be older than 12.

She looks like she was eaten by a semi-truck.

She didn't respond, so I parked my car and started to get out.

"Hey, it's ok. Where are your parents?"

She started to back away from me.

She kept glancing at the gun.

"Is the gun making you nervous? Should I put it in the car?"

She nodded.

That's progress.

"Ok stay there. I'll put it in the car ok?"

She nodded again.

I went and put it in the trunk of the car.

"Ok can you tell me your name now?"

"O-Olivia.."

Fuck.

"Olivia Finch?"

She nodded and backed up some more.

It's the little girl who went missing 10 years ago.

"Hey Olivia, why don't you come to the police station with me. There are some nice blankets there to warm you up, and some hot cocoa. How does that sound?"

She nodded.

"Ok Come on."

She slowly walked over to me and I helped her into the front seat.

I went back around to my side and turned the heat up.

I drove her to the station and we walked in.

Everyone was looking over here.

"Hey Jenny can you make some hot cocoa and bring it to my office?"

"Uh yeah."

"Ok Olivia, can you tell me where you've been staying?"

"I-I can't go back." She said and stood up really fast.

"No, no. Don't worry you don't have to go back. Do you wanna sit back down? You don't have to go back."

She sat back down, but further away from me.

"Is it ok if I call your brother? He'll want to know you're here."

She just nodded.

I'm really glad she didn't ask about her Mom.

I don't want to be the one to tell her about it.
