There was a small Kenjutsu dojo nearby to my house. Through 10,000 years of negotiating, the owner was willing to let Saber and me use the dojo after hours for training.
Y/N: So where do we start?
Saber: I ask you, do you learn better through fundamental teaching or experiential learning?
Y/N: As far as school goes, definitely experiential. I've got to try something to really pound it into my head-
She swung a practice katana at my head but stopped before it connected with me. I instinctively ducked anyways.
Y/N: Woah, warning first?! I get it's just a practice katana, but sheesh!
Saber: Forgive me for the shameful surprise attack, but I felt the need to measure where you are currently at.
Y/N: And?
Saber: Your reaction speed is too slow to keep up with a Servant, but that can be worked on. Also, when panicked, your body chooses to run rather than fight.
**So my fight-or-flight sucked and I was as slow as molasses... Okay...**
Y/N: Well, this is the part where you say, "but..." and then tell me how to improve.
Saber: Hands-on training. Please, grab your weapon of choice.
It was a kenjutsu dojo, but there were more than just swords to pick from. I knew that with a name like "Saber" the best thing she could teach me was a sword, so I grabbed 2 practice katanas.
Saber: Two of them?
Y/N: Maybe I should use three of them... Like Zoro
I grabbed a third one and put it in my mouth. It hurt my teeth and definitely was not an efficient way to fight.
Saber: Like Zorro..? I do not recall him using more than one blade.
I dropped the sword in my mouth.
Y/N: Not Zorro, but an anime character named Zoro who fights with 3 swords. That wasn't effective anyway. I think I want to try two.
Saber: Very well, if you wish to learn to fight with two swords, you must first learn one.
I put down the other sword and only used one of them.
**I need to learn to use this sword with both my right and left hands. Then once I have the muscle memory down, I can move on to two.**
Y/N: I'm ready
Saber: Come!
I charged at her and got absolutely destroyed.
Y/N: Dang, you're OP!
Saber: OP? I am not familiar with that term.
This was my first time ever getting to experience a Servant's combat experience for myself. I've fought other students before and I got to fight a mage the other day, but none of them came close to a servant.
Y/N: I'm saying you're strong. Stronger than anybody I've ever seen.
Saber: The more we duel, the smaller the gap will become.
I got back up.
Y/N: Let's keep going then.
I got my butt handed to me for the next 2 hours straight without taking a break. The physical strain and dehydration were getting to me now. I laid on the floor, looking up at the ceiling, and took a sip of water from my bottle.
Y/N: Okay, I'm throwing in the towel for today.
I looked over at her. She had no signs of fatigue or injury. Not a blemish on her clothes and not a drop of sweat on her skin.
