-Y/N's point of view-
As they walked away, they heard the click of the metal doors locking behind them. The sun gave a relaxing warmth on their short fur, as they walked to the edge of the platform. One benefit of having such long legs used for climbing through caves was that they could easily brush off long falls, deciding against the mind-numbing beam, they hopped down with ease, and continued to the bridge, deciding to work on the building, however, a short walk later, they ran into a familiar face. "Quill! Good morning!" Her best—and only—student was hard at work, fidgeting with some metal pieces and trying to install them into a small potted plant. "Good morning Y/N!!" The small chinchilla was always happy to see them, it was strange, having someone look up to you like that. Y/N may not have been a real Scrybe, but to Quill, that didn't matter. They were as much of a Scrybe as the rest in her eyes. "I see you're learning well! Would you like some help?" "That'd be nice.." Quill couldn't quite find the right part in the plant's roots to hook it up to the wires, but Y/N explained exactly where they had to attach it to get power from the plant, allowing Quill to hook it up herself, and after plugging it into a volt reader, it showed some power! It was a very small amount of power, but these electric plants Y/N had been testing were just prototypes, and hopefully they could put it into a larger scale, like a tree, for clean energy.
Quill was ecstatic, and she gave Y/N a hug, and thanked them for their time. Y/N gave her a pat on the head, wished her goodbye, and started toward their own project again. Y/N couldn't help but feel pride for their student, wise beyond her years. It wasn't surprising, the poor kid had lost her family a long while ago, with Y/N taking her under their wing she was one of few people who knew where Y/N's house was, since they weren't sure they were allowed to live here, not technically being a Scrybe or a student, but they couldn't bare living far on some other island. Even if they could live with their friends on an island that was a 40 minute swim from the west coast, they felt a need to be here. 'Probably just some remains of my old code...' Y/N thought. But before they could analyze themself any more, they saw the large chain of the floating island right ahead.
They grabbed onto the tallest link they could reach, before flinging themself up and grabbing again, repeating this only a few times before they reached the top. Seeing the brick structure before them, they grabbed their tools and got to work, but as the task at hand became easier with repetition, their mind wandered. 'What's up with P03? Did I overstay my welcome? Or maybe it's that Scrybe meeting tomorrow.. it hates those.' They recalled one time when they visited P03 just hours after their monthly Scrybe meeting, it looked like they would melt they were so mad! It rambled about how Leshy was a condescending asshole, although Y/N couldn't really agree. Even though Leshy didn't consider Y/N a Scrybe, they at least showed some kindness to them, something Magnificus lacked. Y/N didn't know much about Grimora, she didn't wander far from her home, and Y/N was too worried about going into her territory. They couldn't imagine 'The Scrybe of Death' being all that welcoming...
They thought back to the topic at hand, P03. 'It seemed like things were going well.. it let me repair him, they let me hug them, they even let me stay the rest of the night! What went wrong?
...What did I do?' The afternoon sun shed an unbearable heat on their back, just as the outer walls were complete. 'Finally, I could use a swim.' They thought, climbing down and walking to a nearby river, dipping their feet in before sinking completely under. The cool water ran along their hydrophobic fur, and their gills flared open along their neck and ribs, water rushing in and cooling them from the inside out. They swam along rather absentmindedly, relishing in the clear water, diving up and down, before they noticed a familiar cabin. 'I could visit Leshy! Maybe he knows what's going on with P03?' Y/N dived up onto the side of the bridge, startling the Angler. "Sorry!" Y/N said before running to the cabin, shaking themselves dry on the way.
Knock knock knock
"Come in!" The welcoming voice of Leshy called. Y/N opened the door to see Leshy playing against a challenger, as per usual. "Oh, I didn't mean to interupt-" "Nonsense, you're always welcome! We were just about to take a short break anyways." The challenger seemed stumped, Y/N could only imagine how many times they lost the previous battle.
Y/N had mixed feelings about Leshy, he was kind, patient, and loved his craft. They had found him on multiple occasions, hand-carving wooden trinkets for their games, and drawing out the maps in great detail. The only thing that didn't sit right was his ownership of what Y/N should've had..
The sea.
