Narrator POV:

Eliza stood on the small stage in the restaurant her father owned. The musician her dad hired was late and the guests at the restaurant were getting very rowdy.

"Father, should I sing?" Eliza asked as she stood in the wings. Philip Schuyler nodded. "If you're ready." He said and went back to cleaning tables for the next visitors. Most people that pass through are travelers. Only about 50 people live in their small town.

Of course, the musician that Philip hired lived just outside the town and was always late. For everything.

Eliza nodded and grabbed the guitar she helped make with the town carpenter. He was also the butcher and the chef for Philip's restaurant. Everyone in town had many jobs. Everyone but Eliza.

You see, when Eliza was born, Philip and Cathrine held a big party for her. Everyone in town celebrated her birth after the last one... failed... Cathrine had a babygirl before Eliza but she passed away at birth. Same with Eliza's younger sister. And since then, Cathrine also passed.

Now it was only Philip and Eliza. The town made sure they had everything they needed after what happened. They treated Eliza like a princess, making sure she barely had to work. They were glad to let her rest after how she helps everyone mentally. She makes sure to help when people have a bad day.

Eliza strummed the guitar and started singing a song she had working on. This was the first time anyone but her father would hear it. She was too focused on the song to notice another guest walk in.

Alex walked in, guitar in hand. He took a seat near the back and listened to Elizas song. He was slightly angry that she took his gig but it all melted away when he saw her smile as she sung. To him, nothing was better than when a musician smiled at the lyrics they wrote.

After the performance, Alex waved Eliza over to his table. "Hey. That was amazing." He said and pulled out a chair for her. He could tell she was a special one and he decided, on that very day, to never let anyone hurt her again.
