April 1920. A few weeks had passed and Mary and Matthew were due to arrive back at Downton from their Honeymoon in Cannes. Emma and James were happy to return to Howsham Hall and they invited Mrs. Levinson over numerous times as well as the family for luncheon and dinners. Poor Mrs. Bole was hysterical when she learned that she was cooking for Lord and Lady Grantham however Emma was able to reassure her that it was only a small affair. Sybil and Tom had returned to Ireland shortly after the wedding but Sybil had promised that she and Tom would be back to bring the baby to meet the family.
Emma had been worried about her Papa and the upcoming dreadful event of her family selling Downton since Matthew wasn't going to touch Mr. Swire's money. Emma had been wondering of ways to save Downton and the ideas she had come with were worse than the previous idea.
Emma and James had travelled to Downton on the day that Mary and Matthew were supposed to arrive and they were in library when Emma had spotted a silver automobile racing towards Downton.
'They're here!' Emma said excitedly.
'Careful, darling, take it easy.' James said, his eyes sparkled at her ever-growing stomach.
Emma chuckled and walked as quickly as she could towards the front door. A few weeks had done wonders to her stomach, Emma's pregnancy was more visible and Emma had asked Monique about buying new clothing to suit her ever growing stomach. James had been doting on Emma and he was enthusiastic to finally see a visible bulging stomach and it felt more real that Emma was pregnant and carrying what she and James had created.
Emma waited hopefully for the car and realised that James, Robert, Cora, Edith and Alfred came over to greet the newlywed couple.
'What in god's name is this?' Robert chuckled as Mary and Matthew stepped out of the new car, assisted by Alfred. 'Well, I never.'
'Where did this come from?' Cora asked, grinning at the couple.
'I ordered it on the way through in London,' Matthew replied, glowing, 'picked it up on the way back. It's an AC.'
'It's quite impressive.' James commented, 'Is it from the U.S?'
'God no.' Matthew said, chuckling.
'Well, at least it's English.' Robert reasoned.
'Welcome back, my darling.'
'It's good to be back,' Mary said, smiling.
'How was it in Cannes?' Emma asked her sister as she greeted her with a swift kiss on her pale cheek.
