Hello everyone, I apologize for not updating. I had been unwell, and I am still. I had done a COVID test and it came up negative, but still nothing had changed. I hope to get well soon. Anyways, a few things had happened like the verdict of Johnny vs Amber and the Platinum jubilee which I had watched. Anyways, enjoy reading chapter 8, please leave a comment, vote and add the story to your library :)
Early July 1920. The weather had improved, it had been getting slightly warmer and Emma was getting near her due date which Doctor Clarkson said she was due later in the month. She had invited her Mama to go with her to the local hospital for a check-up whilst James was working alongside with Matthew, trying to get a meeting the Estate agent, Mr. Jarvis. With recommendation, Emma stated she had wanted to give birth in the hospital rather than at home and Doctor Clarkson agreed.
Mr. Bates was due back at any moment and Emma had seen her Papa in higher spirits. Cora and Robert had mended their feud and Emma was relieved to see they were grieving together. Tom had resided in Sybil's bedroom, still mourning and Emma paid regular visits to him and the baby. Emma had found her back was getting more sore than usual and she was anxious about giving birth. There was no manual that could tell you how to give birth, although she mentally praised her Mama.
Emma didn't really enjoy having breakfast in bed, so she had gotten up from her bed and she had gotten dressed and went downstairs to help herself to some scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and toast and she sat in between Matthew and Edith. James was already there, sitting in between Matthew and Tom and sipping his cup of tea.
'Good morning, love.' James replied, getting up and helping Emma raising her chair back so that she could sit.
'Thank you, darling.' Emma said, smiling.
'I thought you said you were staying in bed.' Robert said, scratching Isis's ear.
Emma rolled her eyes and replied, 'I'm pregnant...not crippled...besides, I think having breakfast in bed is for either sick or indolent people. I want to be up and about.'
'Just as long as you're not straining yourself.' Robert chastised.
Emma rolled her eyes playfully.
James sat back down at his chair and Edith opened a letter and Emma saw she was deeply invested in reading the letter.
'Something nice?' Matthew asked Edith.
Edith looked up from her letter and said, 'The editor's written back, repeating his offer. He asks if I'm ever in London.'
'Why not? You could see Rosamund and buy some new clothes.' James said reasonably.
Robert didn't look pleased.
'He only wants to persuade you to write for his horrible paper.'
Edith paled and said, 'Still, I think I will go. It seems rude not to, in a way, and I haven't been to London for ages.'
