Hours of searching the woods went by, I found nothing. Well, nothing interesting at least. I didn't even feel like there was anything out here. It was like suddenly the town became quiet and harmless again. I walked back to my car, ready to give up.

I was upset, I didn't even find anything useful. Not a child, not a lead, nothing.

I walked across the bridge over the creek. It was covered in dead, shriveled up leaves. Every time I took a step, a loud crunch could be heard. I rested against the railing of the bridge to think, I looked below at the water in the creek. It was almost frozen.. but some was flowing still. I saw my reflection in the half frozen water, my tired and confused face staring back.

Why was I even doing this? I obviously wasn't going to find anything. I'm not some amazing world class detective. I found absolutely nothing, and no one else was out here. Too cold for a walk in the woods. The wind brushed by me again, reminding me of how crazy I felt being out here looking for missing children in this sort of weather.

Alone at that.

I wasn't sure what else I could do. I'm only some random civilian. I hoped the police would find something. I really wanted the feeling in my chest to go away, I wanted to know that those kids were okay.

I turned to walk back to my car in defeat until I remembered something and stopped in my tracks. The twinge of hope from before came back.

The sewer.

My friend had said something about it last night when she called me. She suspected someone had led the kids in there.

I really... really did not want to go into the sewer, but what she said last night made complete sense. The police hadn't checked it... and it was an awfully large sewer. It connected all over town, the drainage pipe near this area was huge. A grown man could fit inside. I knew the passage ways were pretty big as well. A perfect but not the most sanitary place for a hideout. But it worked well if you were keeping hostages... or bodies.

I sprinted off the bridge and made my way into the trees again. Good thing I knew these woods well. It had a park somewhere around here, a duck pond, and some other really cool things. Popular with kids. I played here when I was younger too.

I found my way around with only a bit of confusion. Finally, I found it. The drain was big, I could fit inside easily, I noted. I made my way over, down into the ditch it was in. I could already smell the sewage water from here.. I wanted to puke.
