They met each other on a case that involved his books Rick fell in love with Kate when they met so Kate asked him why he was interested in murder mystery writing he lied and said he found a dead fish or something on the beach but it was that when he was 11 years old he found a dead body in Hollanders woods he was so scared that he never told anyone after that then him and Beckett got together four years later after he told her he made a deal to protect her life and she yelled at him and asked him why that's when he told her how he felt he said "cause I love you Kate " she answered"your really bringing this up right now" then he told her "four years I have been right here four years just waiting for you to open your eyes and seee that I'm right here that I'm more than just a partner" and why he brought her coffee everyday "just to seee a smile on her face because she was the most maddening frustrating challenge in person he had ever met"
