A/N: So I lied. I know I promised I would update by the start of February but I lied.

I was really contemplating on whether to post this chapter as I was still very unsure of it but I guess I'll just take it down to edit whenever I want to.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter.

Start...

Prologue

You did it. You managed to escape, escape from the place that had been your jail. You might not have been able to escape with everyone but you swore to yourself. That you would come back for the siblings you had left behind.

But... the outside world was completely different from what you had expected. From what all of you had expected.

After escaping from Grace Field House and running through the night, the group had headed towards the horizon of their first free morning. But upon exiting the forest that surrounded Grace Field House, the world changed.

You were now outside with limited knowledge and many weaknesses to be used against you. But you will survive outside. You will find a safe haven for humans, for both yourself, the children with you, and the children that you had left behind.

Two years... That was what you promised Phil.

"Wait for us. We'll be back to bring you outside. To a place where we can all smile happily without fear."

And you promised Diana and... Norman.

It wasn't going to be easy but you can do it. No, you will do it. You will make the impossible possible.

...

Chapter 13: Trap

Tall trees loomed over you as the scenery changed around you. The roots grew along the surface of the ground, the leaves that seemed to touch the sky... what was this place?

You walked at the back of the group with Ray, making sure that the younger kids wouldn't fall behind. Up front, Emma led the group, a compass in her hand.

"They're huge..." Don said incredulously as he looked up at the trees that towered over him.

You couldn't help but agree with him. The forest around you was nothing like the forest you had just left. The forest the group had just left was at least familiar, similar to the one back at the House.

You knew that the outside world was supposed to be different from the House but you didn't expect for it to be this different. None of the books prepared you for this type of environment at all. And with this unknown type of ecosystem, it won't be easy mapping out your surroundings even with your exceptional spatial perception.

Just then, you heard something behind you. Immediately, you froze and turned sharply to look behind you. "(y/n), what's wrong?" Ray asked. You darted your eyes in different directions, trying to find out what had made that sound. Suddenly, out of the corner of your eyes, you saw something move. When you looked at it, there was nothing out of the ordinary (well, as ordinary as it could get).

Was it just my imagination? You thought. You shook the feeling off, shaking your head in response to Ray. 'It's nothing.' You need to keep your guard up at all times, especially in unfamiliar territory like this.

The large roots on the ground made it hard for you to move but even harder for the younger kids. "Our pace is starting to slow down," Ray noted. You nodded in agreement. The group has been walking the entire night and hasn't been able to take a break. And that also meant that the younger kids haven't slept. 'They're tired,' you signed. 'Why don't we take a break?'
