Alex's Pov:

Me and Ashtray been secretly hanging out. Only Fez and Maddy knows right now. I would hang out with him outside of school in his shop. I would tell my mom I was staying behind at school for study group.

Right now, I was at ash's shop in the hidden room. "Alex, would you stop playing around and actually help." An annoyed ashtray says. I continue to play with the knife in my hand.
"No thanks." I say reluctantly as I give him a sarcastic smile. I threw the knife halfway into the air and caught the edge part of my hand making a cut on the palm of my hand. I wince in pain putting the knife down and holding my hand as a little blood was starting to come out.

Ashtray sighed and got up from behind the table and stood in front of me. He grabbed my hand and shook his head. "Your such an idiot. I told you to be careful." He said walking away to get the first aid kit. "It's not that bad."

He walked back and grabbed my hand again cleaning the blood off my hand. As I was just watching very intensely. After he was done wiping my hand he rubbed over the cut with an alcohol swab, which earned a wince of pain from me. He didn't pay any mind to me and continued. After he put a bandage over my cut. "There. You need to be careful Alex." He says grabbing my knife and taking it back to the table with him. "Wait that's mine!" I whine.

"I like it so I'm keeping it." Ash said with a shrug of his shoulders. I let out an annoyed huff and grab my stuff. "Where are you going?" He spoke.

"I need to go home before my mom starts asking questions." I say putting on my backpack. He nods and continues to put the weed and drugs in little baggies. I open the freezer door and walk out. I don't see Fez by the register, but I just thought he was in the back restocking the shelfs or something.

I grabbed my skateboard and started skating home.

When I got home, I heard my mom and Maddy arguing. I put my stuff down and tried to follow where the arguing was coming from. I was in the kitchen just watching everything. My mom came to the table picking up the dishes. "Eso no es amor Verdadero." My mom said walking.

Translation: "That's not real love."

Maddy followed her. "I'm just saying love is a million things! Sometimes it feels good sometimes it doesn't." Maddy said trying to reason with mom. I wanted to help defend Maddy, but I didn't know what they were arguing about.

"The one thing I know is Nate loves me no matter what! He'd kill for me, and I'd kill for him. It feels good to know there's one person in this fucked up world who has my back!" Maddy continued. My mom continued washing the dishes paying no mind to what she was saying.

"Mom, you think she wanted what you and dad had? You guys lived in this house together for 10 years and didn't say one word to each other!" I say defending Maddy and standing next to her. "That's the difference between me and you." Maddy added on throwing her arm back.

My mom sighed and didn't say anything and just stood there. Maddy ran up the stairs to her room. "And where were you?" My mom said changing the subject.

"Study group." I said blankly helping get the dishes off the table. "Hope you didn't go see that boy." She says walking towards the sink and putting the dishes in there.

I sigh and walk towards the sink to. "I don't get the big deal mom. I skipped school once. I'm generally a good kid. I help clean the house, my grades are good right now, I obey everything you and your rules." I say leaning on the counter. The last one was a lie, but does she know that? No.

"Alex. I'm not going through this again with you." She spoke.

"You realize you took away my one and only real friend, yes?" I say crossing my arms leaning off the counter. She doesn't say anything and ignores me. I walk away upstairs headed towards Maddy's room.

I knocked on the door twice before opening it and walking in.

"Hey." I say lowly walking towards her. She was sitting up with her legs crossed. "Hi." She responds.

"I hope you know I have your back to." I say sitting next to her laying my head on her shoulder. "I know. I missed you when you left. A lot." She says resting her head on top of mine. "I didn't want to leave. I was only 6, I didn't have a choice." I spoke. I can feel her nod her head.

"If you did, would you have stayed?" Maddy stuttered.

"God yes. Dad fell apart after we moved, started drinking. And well you know the rest." I say with a tight-lipped smile. She looks down sadly as I pull her into a tight hug.

"I really, really hope you know yours and Nates relationship isn't good." I say pulling her in tighter. "Yeah, I know. But no matter what I know deep down I'll still love him." She spoke in a low, raspy voice.
