Chapter Fourteen

October 11, 1990 

Teenaged Ruby is sitting on her porch, getting ready to write in her diary with a purple pen. Right before she starts writing, she hears tires squealing so she looks up. A car runs over some trash cans right across the street, Ruby continues watching on.

Ruby gets up and walks over as the teenager with blonde hair gets out of the car.

"Are you okay?"  Ruby asks.

"Son of a bitch," teenaged Beth mutters when she sees the damage on the car, she and Ruby pick up the trash bags.

"Have you ever driven before?" Ruby asks.

"Duh," Beth asks.

"How old are you?" Ruby asks.

"How old are you?" Beth asks the same thing.

Ruby glances at the car. "Where are you going?"

"To get groceries," Beth replies.

"Can't your mom do it?"

"She's I'm bed?" Little Annie replies as she and little Alexander poke their heads out of the car, Alexander being Annie's best friend. 

"Is she sick or something?" Ruby asks nosily.

"She just really likes it there," Annie replies.

Annie is pretending to smoke a candy cigarette and is sharing it with Alex. They both are wearing casts. Annie's is orange and is on her left wrist, Alex's is black and on his right. They got into bicycle accidents and didn't land the way they wanted to.

"Thanks," Beth says to Ruby as she heads back to the driver's seat.

"My uncle taught me once in a parking lot," Ruby claims.

"Yeah?" Beth asks and runs nods her head. "It's harder than it looks," she claims as she motions towards the car.

Ruby gets in behind the wheel and Beth in the passengers sear. Alex is playing with a set of dice he had throat at his head by his Uncle Clyde because he was being 'too loud' by working quietly on his homework.

Annie leans up between the sears. "I wanna drive!"

Annie moves back when Beth tells her to shut up a few times and she and Alex squeal when Ruby status to drive.

It was a week ago when Jane was missing. Caroline is glad shEs safe. Olivia is a big daddy's girl. She loves Rio more that Care, the mom swears it. Rio adores all six of Caroline's kids. Caroline and Alex still co-parent when it comes to Grace.

Rhea brings in burritos and Marcus. Rio and Marcus hug and Grace makes a beeline for the food, making Rhea chuckle. The quints come stumbling over. Rio catches Jennifer and picks her up as Olivia reaches up for Rhea. The woman beams as she picks her up and holds her on her hip.

"Hey, dad!" Grace greets as Alex walks on.

"Hey, Gracie," Alexander greets as he grabs a burrito and sits down. "Did I miss any fun dinner conversation?"
