Chapter 4

Shelby had woken up before Cyd did. What time is it? She looked over at the clock that had read 10:30am. Shelby was cuddled up to Cyd. Shelby's eyes had went wide. She slowly had gotten out of Cyd's grasp and was careful not to wake Cyd up. She let out a quiet sigh of relief and had walked to the staircase. She stopped and looked over her shoulder over at Cyd. She's so beautiful. Shelby shook her head. No, I can't. What if she's dating someone? What if we were together and all of a sudden she breaks up with me because I'm not good enough? Shelby sighed and walked downstairs and saw nobody was home. She just decided to start making breakfast. She didn't really make very much since she wasn't very hungry. She didn't forget about Cyd though. She heard foot steps coming from the staircase. Cyd had walked up to Shelby and wrapped her arms around Shelby's waist and put her chin on Shelby's shoulder. "Good morning" Cyd had a smile on her face. Shelby smiled and turned around in Cyd's arms. "Good morning to you too" They both stayed like that. Cyd's arms around Shelby's waist and Shelby's arms on Cyd's shoulder's. Her face had turned red and she felt her ears get hot. She hugged Cyd in order to hide her face in Cyd's neck. Cyd just kept her arms wrapped around Shelby. "Are you okay? What happened?" Shelby let go and turned the other way and walked to the counter to start eating her breakfast. "Nothing...I'm okay." Shelby smiled at Cyd to let her know she was doing okay. You know you're not okay, you like Cyd. Shelby sighed and shook her head. Cyd smiled and shook her head. "Okay. If there's anything you need. Just tell me" Cyd had gotten her breakfast and headed upstairs. Shelby looked at Cyd. "Wait" Cyd turned around and looked at Shelby. "Yeah Shelby?" Shelby bit her bottom lip. "Stay down here. Please?" Cyd nodded with a small smile. "Of course" Cyd walked over by Shelby and sat next to her. They had both ate breakfast in a nice comfortable silence. It was nice. You know what's nice about how silent it is? You could blurt out to Cyd how you feel about her. Shelby's eyes went wide as her face went red again. Can we not do this today? I don't wanna deal with this. Please? Shelby's thoughts had gotten a little out of hand. Both Shelby and Cyd had finished eating their breakfast and headed back upstairs to change. They had their backs turned facing each other. While Cyd was changing Shelby looked at her mirror and could see Cyd's back. She felt her ears get hot and her heart starting racing. Oh no...why does this keep happening to me? Shelby closed her eyes and put her shirt on. Once both girls had gotten done changing, Cyd went up to Shelby. "What do you wanna do today?" Cyd gave a smile as she sat on Shelby's bed. Shelby sat next to Cyd. "It is Sunday...and it's nice out" Swimming. "No" Cyd got confused. "What? What do you mean no? Are you sure you're okay Shelby?" Shelby's eyes got wide. "Huh? Wait I said that out loud? And yes I'm okay. Trust me." Shelby put a hand on Cyd's shoulder. Cyd gave a small smile. "Okay then...how about we go get some ice cream, yeah?"Shelby nodded with a smile and put her hands in her pockets. "Yeah, let's go" No let's stay here, have a nice day in and cuddle while watching movies. Cyd and Shelby stood there for a second before Cyd grabbed one of Shelby's hands and lead her downstairs and outside. Shelby had ignored her last thought and just decided to ignore everything and focus on the day ahead of her. (It's ironic because I'm getting ice cream right now) Both Shelby and Cyd walked to Cyd's motorcycle and hopped on wearing the helmets they always wear. Once they had gotten to an ice cream place, Cyd had parked and let Shelby get off first before Cyd got off herself. They had went up to the window and ordered what they both wanted and had sat at a table. Cyd had looked at Shelby and smiled and chuckled. "What?" Cyd shook her head. "You've got ice cream on your nose." Shelby's face had gotten red. She sunk down in her seat a little. Cyd had got up and sat next to Shelby as Shelby had sat up to meet Cyd's gaze. "Here I got it" Cyd had put her hand on Shelby's cheek, setting her ice cream down and used the napkin she had and wiped it off Shelby's nose. They once again sat like that in silence staring at each other. Go on, what are you waiting for?? Tell her! Shelby's breath hitched in her throat. "Uh-" Shelby turned her head away from Cyd but gave her a small smile. "Thanks...Cyd" Cyd smirked at Shelby. "You're welcome" Cyd was done with her ice cream and had gotten up to throw it away. She was about to go sit back down by Shelby when her phone buzzed. "Hey" Cyd smiled at her phone and walked over to the table Shelby was at and sat across from her. Cyd had texted back. "Hey baby!" Cyd's girlfriend texted Cyd back. "There's something I need to tell you" Cyd got confused. During all this Shelby just watched. "Who are you texting?" Cyd looked up. "My girlfriend...she texted me saying she needs to tell me something" Shelby's heart fell to her stomach. Girlfriend? She never told me that..? Cyd's girlfriend texted back. "I have to break up with you, plus I can't do long distance. It's way to hard. I hope we can still be friends" Cyd's heart just about sank and shattered. Cyd just sat there. Just frozen. Shelby looked at Cyd. "Are you okay? What happened?" Cyd put her phone face down with a few tears coming from her eyes. "She broke up with me...I wanted to bring her along and tell you that I've got the most amazing girlfriend. But because of the whole Covid thing, which has mostly dialed down, but she still didn't want to come along. And now she breaks up with me" Shelby sat there for a minute. Her girlfriend dumped her. Do something! "Let's go back to my place, and watch movies and just have a day in together." Cyd looked at Shelby. "Me and my girlfriend used to do that together..." Cyd sighed. "I can't believe she's gone" Shelby got up and threw her ice cream away and went and sat next to Cyd and put an arm around her. "Don't worry about her. If she can't see how amazing you are, how beautiful you are, then it's her loss...there's plenty others way better for you." Cyd gave a smile and hugged Shelby and didn't let go for awhile. "Thank you Shelby. That means a lot." Shelby wrapped her arms around Cyd tightly. "Of course. Anything for my best friend" They sat there just hugging each other, neither one letting go for awhile. After they both let go of each other finally, Cyd had taken the both of them back to Shelby's place and they had went to Shelby's room and changed. Luckily for Shelby her face didn't turn red, neither did her ears get hot. Well of course their backs were facing each other again. After they changed into pjs Shelby had turned to Cyd who was sitting on her bed. Shelby walked up to Cyd and sat next to her. "You doing okay?" Cyd looked at Shelby. "I guess....it was my first relationship. I thought she loved me. But I guess not" Cyd put her head on Shelby's shoulder. Shelby's heart started racing. Just breathe...don't freak out. Your doing just fine. Shelby put an arm around Cyd as if it was a natural thing to do. "Don't worry, I'm gonna go make popcorn and you can pick out which movie we can watch." Tell her you wanna cuddle while watching movies. Shelby just sighed. I cant believe I'm gonna do this. "If it makes you feel any better, I'll let you cuddle with me while we watch movies." Cyd looked up at Shelby with a small smile. Now this time it was Cyd's turn for her heart to flutter just a bit. Shelby returned the smile back. "I'll be right back" Shelby stood up and Cyd watched while Shelby walked towards the staircase. Cyd stood up. "Wait" Shelby turned around. "Yeah?" Cyd walked up to Shelby and gently grabbed her wrist and kissed Shelby's cheek. "Thanks...it means a lot" Shelby just gave a small chuckle. "No problem. Anything for my best friend" Shelby had went and made popcorn while Cyd had grabbed the remote and flipped through the different movies they could watch. While Shelby was downstairs making popcorn she had thoughts in her head again. I feel terrible for Cyd. I cant believe her girlfriend broke up with her. And over text? Who does that? Shelby just sighed. She brought her hand up to her cheek as her heart fluttered. She kissed me on the cheek. Does she like me? But this isn't what best friends do. Do they? I was just being mad because her girlfriend broke up with her! But the fact she kissed me on the cheek....wow! Shelby was in her own little world a little to much. The microwave went off which made Shelby jump. Shelby had put a hand on her chest and sighed. She shook her head and got the popcorn out of the microwave and grabbed one big bowl. She poured the popcorn in the bowl and threw the bag away. She grabbed the bowl and stopped at the stairs. "Here we go" She walked up the stairs with the bowl of popcorn in hand and went up to her room. Once she went up to her room she found Cyd on her bed with her head hidden in her legs. Shelby sighed and put the bowl of popcorn on the side table and sat on the bed next to Cyd. She put her arms around Cyd and put her in her lap. Shelby just held Cyd. "I miss her Shelby" Cyd had tears coming down her face. Shelby gently lifted Cyd's face so they were a couple inches apart. "I know you do. It wasn't your fault, okay? She just can't see how beautiful you truly are" Cyd just put her head on Shelby's chest and Shelby just continued to hold her. Cyd sniffled a little. "Thanks...again" Shelby gave a small smile and rubbed Cyd's back. "Always" Both girls had sat there as the movie played in the background while one of them had fallen asleep in the other's arms.
