The community has many acronyms, the most commonly used being LGBT, LGBTQ, and LGBTQ+.  The longest that I know of is LGBTQIAP+, but there could be much longer ones. There's also QUILTBAG, which isn't used too often. The shortened acronym used to be GLBT, but was changed to LGBT because back in the 80s and 90s, AIDS took out a lot of gay men, and lesbians were seemingly unaffected, and helped nurse the gay men back to health. They were a massive part of the activism surrounding the community at the time. Due to this, the acronym was changed out of respect. Referring to the community as GLBT is not only inaccurate, but ignorant, as you're disregarding all the work they did and struggles they went through.
