"Kami! Is my cleaning to your delight?" The lady asks after she had swept the grounds near the torii gate. She was sweating profusely, obvious at first glance that she was new to chores.
"Yes." The blonde answers with an apathetic tone. "It is now late, the sun is nearing its end. Cleanse yourself and sleep." He adds and turns around to head to the shrine office.
The lady follows the blonde, carrying the wooden leaf broom with her.
The lady had settled down in her temporary room in the shrine's office, and had changed her clothes to ready herself to sleep.
But alas! The lady couldn't. The night was dark, the bright beams of the moon seeped through the wooden binds and illuminated the room fairly.
This very light was the cause of why she couldn't sleep. Her sleepy eyes couldn't help but produce figures, her imaginative mind had grown to scare her.
"Kami..." The lady calls, hoping that the blonde man would appear.
But he didn't. So, she stood up to head outside. She was scared, but staying in that dimly lit room feels like it will eat her whole.
Once she slid open the door, she hurriedly went to the haiden. It wasn't that of a distance compared to where the torii gate is.
"Kami, I am scared. Please keep me from harm!" The lady says out of distress.
"How stone brain of me!" The lady insults herself when it dawns on her that she was being rude to Kami.
Hastily, as if evil spirits were chasing her, she went back to her room to get herself a coin. "Kami..." The lady whispers, still hoping that the blonde man will magically appear before her.
She went back to the altar. She throws the coin and it produces a loud tiny thud, as if telling her that the only person that has been praying in the shrine was her.
She sways the rope and the bell rang, she bows and claps twice, and prays.
"Kami, keep me from harm!" The lady says and bows once more to end her prayer.
"What are you doing in the midst of this dark night? You are going to wake the bad spirits."
With tearful eyes, the lady spins around and sees the blonde man with a visible frown, and his hands are kept behind him.
"Kami!" The lady says and approaches the man. She kneels before him, resisting her fear driven urge to embrace the man.
"I was frightened! I had repeated your name twice yet you did not appear!" The lady explains.
"Frightened? Of what? This darkness that surrounds us?" The blonde man queries.
"I keep seeing appalling shadows in my room!" The lady says.
The blonde sighs and turns around. He was slightly vexed. He was awoken from his sleep by the ringing of the bells. He had thought wild animals had come in to destroy the altar.
"Stand up. I shall watch you sleep." He says and leads the way.
