Walking over y/n would pull a rope that would open the cages and like that the timer went off.

When jaune looked back there was the beowolf crawling towards him then only for his vision to get impaired by y/n pouring a bucket of mud on him then the buket soon he had to swing over a pit of mud witch he did well...after he learned the rope was a snake
