Details: MEIKO, along with KAITO, were originally developed with LEON and LOLA for the release of the software "Project Daisy". MEIKO had the codename "HANAKO" for a long time before getting her name change. In her first year of release, she sold around 3,000+. She is KAITO's female counterpart.
Etymology: "MEIKO" comes directly from her voice provider's name, "Meiko Haigō. MEIKO's codename was "HANAKO"; it likely came from "Hanako Yamada (山田花子)", a placeholder name for female characters, and the Japanese equivalent to "Jane Smith". "Megumi" was also a name considered during her development. She is often misnamed by Sakine Meiko fans. The name originates from the eponymous derivative character, depicted as herself in her younger days.
