Saint's POV
I told Perth to leave me to prepare the tuna and avocado sandwiches by myself and rest his injured finger. He had allowed me to clean the cut with some wound wash and to apply it with some antibiotic ointment. I then wrapped a breathable bandage around it.
"Go watch TV while I make the sandwiches," I suggested.
"No," he declined. "I want to stay and watch you make the sandwiches."
"Very well," I said.
While I was making the sandwiches for him and myself, I asked, "So how was the birthday celebration of Amanda?"
It took some time for Perth to answer my question.
Finally he said, "To be honest, I don't remember much of what happened there. I just kept on eating and drinking and at the end of the party, I was too tipsy to know what was happening."
"What about Amanda?" I wanted to know. "Did she interact with you during the party?"
"Not really," Perth replied. "She was spending more time with a female friend. They seemed to be very close to each other. They kept on giggling and whispering things to each other."
Soon the sandwiches were ready.
"Let's watch TV while eating them," I suggested and Perth agreed.
I brought the plates with the sandwiches on them to the living room and set them on the coffee table while Perth wheeled himself to the living room. He didn't need any help in standing up from his wheelchair and transferring himself to the couch.
"Thanks," Perth said when I handed him the plate of tuna and avocado sandwich.
"Sure," I replied. "What kind of drink would you like to go with it?"
"Scotch on the rocks," he replied.
"Stop fooling around or I will give you nothing but a glass of cold water," I said as I headed back to the kitchen.
"A tall glass of guava juice then," he called out after me.
I took out two tall drinking glasses from one of the kitchen cabinets and set them on the kitchen counter.
Then I went over to the fridge and took out the carton of guava juice. I poured it into the two drinking glasses and placed the carton back into the fridge.
"Quick, hurry back," Perth called out. "A talk show is discussing a very interesting topic."
I brought the two glasses of guava juice to the living room and handed one of them to Perth before sitting beside him on the couch.
The talk show host was interviewing a few guests and the topic was marital infidelity.
Suddenly I remembered my promise to meet up with Joss after lunch.
I should call him to let him know that I was cancelling our movie and dinner date.
Perth and I were almost finished with our sandwiches and drinks when my phone sounded with an incoming text notification. My sixth sense was telling me that it was Joss texting me.
"Why don't you check who's texting you?" Perth asked, his face looking curious.
"It might be just some scammer," I said, picking up my glass from the coffee table and drinking the last few quantity of guava juice from it.
"Where are you going?" I asked Perth when I saw him standing up from the couch.
"To refill my glass with guava juice," he replied.
"No, no, no," I protested. "Sit back and relax. I will refill your glass for you."
I took the glass from him and went over to the fridge and filled it up with guava juice. I filled my own glass with cold water instead of guava juice because suddenly I felt very thirsty for water.
As I was walking back to the living room, Perth said, "Your phone is ringing."
Shit, I was sure it was Joss calling me.
I handed Perth his glass of guava juice and set my own glass on the coffee table.
"Excuse me," I said to Perth.
I left the unit and started walking towards the elevator. I glanced at my ringing phone. I was right. My phone screen showed that it was Joss calling me. I was right to walk out of the unit to take it otherwise Perth would start asking questions. I swiped the phone screen before Joss's call could be directed to my voice mail.
"Hello," I said just as the elevator doors opened.
It took a few minutes before I was able to convince Joss that I could not make it to our movie and dinner date today. Not ever. I could not do it to Perth.
When I walked back inside our unit, Perth was no longer in the living room.
