"When I'm walking on water, all my dreams have come true. Still, nothing means nothing...without you."
-
August, 2nd, 4 o'clock:
You and Santana had made it back into the kitchen and where making the batter for the cupcakes, casually chatting. He insisted on trying it every time you added a new ingredient.
The time had come for you to put them in the cupcake cases, so you let Santana eat the remains out of the bowl while you did it. He had such a deep adoration for anything edible.
"All right then, these will go in the oven on low for thirty minutes. Now! Time for the fun part!"
He looked up, slightly confused. Why would we be eating them now if we hadn't decorated them - or even cooked them.
"Cleaning the kitchen!"
It made sense to him now.
The kitchen was a mess, there was flour all over the floor and egg shells everywhere. He had smashed three eggs into oblivion before you stepped in and did it for him. There was even butter on the wall, which you weren't even sure how that happened. At least he wasn't a messy eater, he seemed to devour every crumb of whatever he would eat. In hindsight, maybe you should have just asked him to lick the walls and floor clean.
You handed him an old mop and you jumped on the counter to clean the bench and wall.
-
Within no time, you both made easy work of the mess and the cupcakes were cooked and cooled, ready to be decorated. You had split the batch in two, giving him six to decorate, and you the same.
"We should have the others judge whose looks better," You proposed, "Like a competition."
He met your eyes with a devious grin. You had thought it to be a no brainier, judging by the fact he couldn't even crack an egg without utterly destroying it - surely he wouldn't be able to decorate a cake. It is an art form after all! It takes years to master.
You were very wrong.
The moment you said it was a competition, Santana's pride stepped in, along with his incredible intellect - you had no chance now.
You watched him delicately pipe roses with the red icing, like it was nothing. You didn't even know how to do that!
Sweat beads started to form on your face as you were staring at him, trying to come up with something just as impressive. He noticed you watching in awe and he winked at you with a grin, before piping green leaves.
"Is that all you've got!? I could do better with my eyes closed!" You teased, obviously bluffing.
He laughed at your attempt of smack talk and proceeded too finish the rest in no time, all the while keeping his smirk.
If you were being honest, baking wasn't really your thing but you enjoyed it so much, so it was always worthwhile to you. It is a creative outlet after all - and if it can bring happiness like this, its worth it one hundred times over.
You piped some [favourite colour] swirls very slowly onto your first cupcake. Standing back to admire your work. It wasn't worthy of being in an art museum like Santana's, but that didn't stop you from bragging out it.
"Simplicity is most effective." You grinned, folding your arms. "I think I've out-done myself there!"
His grin turned into a smile, for the first time since he had gotten here. It was captivating, he really did look like he belonged on the front cover of vogue.
