Chapter 27

"Hey its Marianna mom and Dwayne knows your back in New York and wants to see you. I miss you X its been a while."

NYC, NY📍

"Do they know ya here?" Xavier set his eyes on his sister Marianna as she sat down in the passenger seat of his car.

"No" she replied, shutting the car door.

"Y'know how they'd react if they saw you with me." Xavier gave her a stern look.

"Yeah but I'm not them X...I don't get why you never reached out to me after you moved out." Marianna looked at him with sad eyes.

By them she meant Dwayne

"So how things been going at home?" Xavier changed the subject.

"Terrible" Marianna dry laughed looking down at her lap. "Mom's sick sick and Dwayne been cheating on her for a while now"

"What?" Xavier's eyes widen.

"She's getting sick that I might have to put her in a nursing home" her eyes began to water. "And if she does then I'll be left alone with Dwayne and I'm really scared cuz he's been touching on me and-"

"Ri why didn't you come to me" Xavier balled up his fists at his sides.

"You went off to college and never bothered reaching out to me."

"I shouldn't have left you alone in that house" he clenched his teeth. "How long has he been touching on you."

"Ever since you left" she mumbled.

"Ri" Xavier looked her dead in the eyes.

Marianna looked down at the her lap in shame. "He threatened to kick me out so I had no other choice."

"What about ma or the cops Ri you don't think" Xavier pointed at his temple getting upset.

"Remember mom has Alzeheimer's she ain't gon remember shit and what the cops gon do huh we black people living in America" Marianna yelled, getting irritated.

"Calm down ight we gon figure something out" Xavier reassured her.

"I don't have much time left I snuck out the house when Dwyane left and he'll be home anytime soon." Marianna checked the time on her phone.

"You want me to drop you off?" Xavier raised an eyebrow.

"No its fine I'll just bus home plus Dwayne installed cameras outside the perimeter of the house he'll find out I snuck out"

"So how'd you get out?" Xavier asked.

"Turned off the router"

"Ight so could you meet me same time tomorrow then?"

"Yeah I'll see if I can" Marianna nodded her head.

"Ight" Xavier watched as Marianna climbed out his car. She waved at him him before walking out the alleyway.

"What happened to you this morning I thought we were gonna meet up to go to Walmart." Diamond asked as she climbed into his car.

"Something came up" Xavier said as he sped off down the road.

"Like what?" Diamond raised an eyebrow.

"Stuff I had to take care of" he shrugged.

"More important than blowing me off?" she raised an eyebrow.

Xavier shook his head to himself. Its like she's picking for a fight so he ignored her and focused on the road.

"Who's the other girl?" she squinted her eyes at him.
