The Emerald Protector (Knuckles x Gender Neutral reader)

Chapter 4

"Ok so explain how you know me and what the hell is happening?" I asked

"Ok so an evil scientist named Robotnik is back along with echidna named Knuckles. They want to find the master emerald for who knows why, and I'm the only one with the map to find the compass needed to find the master emerald. We have to make sure it never falls into their hands because it holds great power. But there's a piece missing and because of that the emerald won't work. So we need to protect the last piece along with the master emerald." Sonic said fast

I listen and nod

"But what does it have to do with me? And you still need to tell how you know me."

"Y/n. Your all Tom and Maddie talk about...." He said

I look down ashamed

Sonic notices this

"You know they miss you, right? They still sometimes search for you whenever their out in town..."

"It doesn't matter...they're better off without me..." I replied

Sonic see's how stubborn Y/n was gonna be so decided to drop the subject.....for now

Tails noticing the tension speaks up

"Uh Hi! I'm Tails. Sonic and I really need your help."

I look at him in confusion

"Why? It's not like I have anything that Robohobo and Knuckles would want." I say

"Actually you might be more important than you know! You see, I've been following my radar to help track any spiked up energy levels. For the last missing emerald piece! Each time it ends up with the same result. You!" Tails said

"Well hate to break it to but I don't have it." I tell him

"Oh not physically! But after ending up with the same result, I realized something." He continued

I wait for him to continue

"I altered my radar so shows energy spikes outside and inside objects. When I followed it again to you it showed me that you are the missing piece! You have a part of the master emerald inside you!" He says excited

I widen my eyes before chuckling

"Haha good joke. I'm sorry but I don't exactly believe you."

"It's not a joke! Y/n have ever noticed anything different that humans usually can't do?" Sonic says defending Tails

I opened mouth to say no. But the more I thought about it...

'The green sparks....the glowing eyes....that means...'

I look up at them in shock

"I-I am the missing piece! But how?!" I exclaimed

"Did you ever touch or seen an emerald before?" Tails asked

I suddenly remembered that night when I took a walk when really young and when I found that glowing emerald

"But I thought it was all a dream...." I muttered eyes wide

"So do you believe us know??" Sonic asks

I'm to shocked to respond

"Uh Tails I think we broke them..."

Suddenly there was an explosion from the distance catching my attention

I gasp and widen my eyes

"My home!" I immediately started running towards my cabin

More explosions were heard as I ran closer to my home

Sonic and Tails followed after me

Once I finally turned the corner i saw Robotnik, his robots, and....Knuckles....standing above my now demolished house

I collapsed to me knees and stare in shock. I then look up to Knuckles eyes, to which he avoided my gaze.

I glared harshly.

"Why did you do this....WHY. DID.YOU.DO.THIS!!" I stand up

Sonic and Tails are at my side ready to fight if needed

"I TRUSTED YOU!" I scream at Knuckles

He looks down guilty but glares anyway. Before he could speak Robotnik cut him off

"That was your first mistake!! You should know trust is meant to be broken! Now where is that missing emerald hm?" Robotnik commands his drones silently to engage in firing

"Like we would ever tell you anything!!" Sonic yells and Tails nods

"Oooo guess it's gonna be the hard way! Oh well, it's more fun this way!" Robotnik said as his drones started shooting at us

Sonic quickly lifts me up and starts running with Tails flying behind him

"You will not escape again hedgehog!" I hear Knuckles behind us

I glare at him

"Sonic put me down! I need to beat his ass!!" I said as I tried to get out of his arms

"No can do! He would kill you before you get a chance to hit him!" He continued to run

"I'll take that chance...." I said as I managed to jump out of his grip

Both tails and him skid to a stop for a second

"Go and get out of the forest! I'll meet you once I'm done here..." I crack my neck

Sonic was gonna disagree but drones suddenly appeared and chased after him and Tails. Leaving then no choice but to run.

I see Knuckles finally show up and I get into a fighting position

"You are only human! I would break your weak bones." Knuckles said as he also got into a fighting position

"As long as I get revenge...I don't give a shit..." I smirk

We both bolt towards each other

Knuckles tries to go in for a punch but I jump over his head and kick him in the back.

He stumbles for a bit before he turns around only to see Y/n was gone. He then heard the leaves in the trees move.

Suddenly he felt a knife whizz past and end up cutting his arm he turns around only to be met with a punch to the face

He holds his nose in pain. He then grabbed
Y/n's arm twisting them over and slamming them into the ground

Y/n winces in pain and then felt themselves being picked up and thrown slamming into a nearby tree.

Y/n stands up despite the pain glares

"Why?! Why did you destroy the only thing I had left!!" I shout

"You are a deceiver! You said you know nothing about the hedgehog! But you are working with him! Not only that but you are keeping the missing piece of master emerald! Therefore you are the enemy!!" Knuckles shouts back

"The only deceiver here is Robotnik! He's only using you to get to the emerald!! You gullible dumbass!!" I felt my body start heat up again, but I ignore it out of pure rage

"Another Lie!!" Knuckles glares as he goes to punch me

Y/n glared as their eyes glowed bright green and sparks started to form around their body.

"I. Am. Not. LYING!!" Y/n slams their fist into the ground causing it to create a huge hole in the ground.

Bits and pieces of the Earth were floating in the air. Knuckles started in a mix of shock and awe before he felt himself trip and fall into the hole.

Y/n glared as the sparks disappeared and grabbed their knife.

Knuckles seeing this believed he was done for but he stares as Y/n looks at him again before running off

All Knuckles could think about was,

'Why didn't they finish me off...?'
