Chapter 5: Checkmate

A/N: Been trying to not use music with volume 2 like I did with volume 1 because I felt like I would rather let my writing set the mood, but I'll make an exception here :) Also there's a song near the end as well, so a heads up for it.

-3rd tank company, first platoon "Drachen", Avalon, sector 1-

The Wolf Spider's systems came to life with a roar as Miatri woke up, hearing the sounds of gunfire. The Hunter looked out the front window of the tank, seeing three large ships over the city. He looked over at his passed out comrade and smacked his chest, the other Hunter waking up
"What in the-!?"
"In the sky, look..." Miatri said quietly. The other demon looked at the ship
"Zeti...?"
Miatri looked over at his radio and swapped the frequency until he had a signal, hearing Arnec's voice
"This is commander Arnec, the Zeti are currently invading Avalon. Unfortunately the dreadnoughts they have stolen are a lot faster than us and we are still 20 minutes out. Try and hold out as long as you can, we'll try and get reinforcements to you as soon as we can!"
Miatri looked over at his friend
"20 minutes in warp? Where in the bloody hell did they go!?"
Suddenly they heard ships warping in, and they weren't friendly. Several Zeti fleets arrived, the Silent Shadow being outnumbered as they scrambled to start evacuating as many civilians as they could to bunkers inside the city.

-A few minutes later. Downtown Avalon, sector 4-

Some civilians were in a bunker, huddled together and quivering as they heard gunfire and lasers. One gecko, a youngling, looked out of a small slit, watching as several Hunters were gunned down in front of them, multiple Zeti warriors walking by before one sniffed the air
"Over there, got a couple hiding!" one yelled before a warlord shoved him aside, walking towards the bunker. The gecko scooted back, panicking before they heard the door being ripped from it's hinges. The warlord smirked as he raised his hammer.
"Can't even put up a fight." he said before they suddenly heard a gunshot and there was a hole in the warlord's chest. He looked down before falling backwards. The gecko looked up and saw Micki, the Stalker nodding as it had just snapped a Zeti's neck and still had the body in it's arms, using it's fourth arm to blast another Zeti in the face with their sidearm. Several Vampyrs flew down, Skorpions flying above before Aster rushed by, flamethrower in hand.
"This place is secure." she said, Micki chirping as they saw the civilians being rushed into the dropships. A weakened Zeti warrior grabbed onto Aster's foot, the Pronghorn looking down with a disgusted expression as it spoke
"You... Monsters..."
Aster just smirked as she held her flamethrower to the warrior's face
"Maybe the devil will teach you what irony is when you get to hell with the rest of your kind." she said before launching a thermite grenade at the Zeti's face and kicking him away. Aster smirked as she heard the warrior's screaming as he was burned alive
"That's for my realm..." she whispered. Micki turned towards her, making some low clicks and grumbles. Aster heard a female voice on her radio
"Are you okay?"
Aster smirked before putting her hand on the Stalker's shoulder
"I'm fine. Just getting revenge for my fallen comrades."
Micki looked at the Pronghorn, her head tilting before she nodded, Aster nodding back before raising her flamethrower.
"This is pretty much how it was for the Sol Dimension the second time they invaded. Hopefully our backup doesn't take too long..."

-Stolen Arcadian dreadnought in sector 2 "Liminias", hangar bay C-

A Zeti mech stood in the hangar, some engineers having just attached some large rocket tubes to a backpack on it. It looked like it was made by Eggman with the overall shape but the Zeti had modified it to the point it was almost unrecognizable
"Livaka, the Haraki is isn't as nimble as their fighters, only engage if necessary. Arnec, Blaze and Sonic have not been sighted but be careful. And try not to hit any civilians? That's the convicts' jobs."
Livaka smiled as he put on his helmet, his Zeti snout barely fitting as he pressed some buttons on the console next to him, the cockpit closing.
"Copy that. Hriga, Shinabi, status?"
"Hriga, ready."
"Shinabi, ready."
"Copy that. Launch on my mark."
Livaka smiled before shoving the throttle forward, the engines coming to life with a low roar
"Launch!"
The mechs shot forward, Livaka feeling like the seat was trying to absorb him as the G forces hit. The mechs took to the skies, the rocket boosters leaving contrails behind them.
"Uhh, Livaka, we have a situation."
"What?"
"Something just took out 5 of our mechanized squadrons in less than a minute. Last report we received had the target traveling at roughly 3 times the normal speed for their fighters! The last squadron we lost said it was a red comet, so look out for that! I say again, the bandit is a red comet!"
Livaka looked down at the control panel in front of him, the hum of the engines providing some white noise as he looked at his comrades
"Alright team, look out for a red comet."
"Shinabi, copy. Seeing a lot of transports. They want the civilians out, that's for damn sure..."
"Don't engage the transports. That's not our job."
"I wasn't going to... I'm not bloodthirsty like our dumb brothers who just want revenge. I didn't even want this in the first place but here I am!" Shinabi groaned. Hriga laughed
"Just relish in it greenie!"
"Oh, are you deaf, blind and stupid now, Hriga!? My scales are orange, idiot!"
"Hriga, Sinabi, cut the chatter and let's handle this! Spotted a tank squad below. Shinabi, rockets!"
"Aye." Shinabi said before his mech pulled out a large multi-barreled rocket launcher, aiming at a roadway below where several Wolf Spiders had set themselves up.
"Crap, no go. There's civilians nearby!" Sinabi yelled, Livaka sighing
"Of course they'd use civilians to guilt us... Demon bastards..."
Hriga shot by
"To hell with this, I'll blast them since greenie won't!" he yelled as he took aim. Suddenly they heard a loud shing and one of the arms of Hriga's mech was cut off! Livaka and Shinabi looked over and saw what looked like a red comet behind Hriga, it flying straight up to the sky
"It's a... Red comet?" Livaka said to himself. The comet suddenly flew at Hriga's mech, punching a hole clean through it's stomach, right below the cockpit. Livaka looked over
"Hriga, status!"
"Damn bastard- hit my ammo supply for the chaingun, this clip is all I got. Moving to engage." the large suit looked over at the comet as it danced through the sky.
"Hriga, what the hell is that!? Silent Shadow have a new weapon!?"
"I can't tell..."
The red energy around the comet faded to reveal a demon that looked awfully similar to Arnec but red...
