Loving someone was an absurd idea when it came to Mara, because she could never care for anybody beyond a platonic aspect, which even then was rare.

Camille was one of the few that Mara was willing to open up to, which was hard enough as it is, after all, when you're the most dangerous creature on Earth you can't exactly trust that no one will betray you.

These thoughts constantly swarmed in Mara's mind, never leaving her a moment to live in peace without the fear of constant betrayal from those who she could call friend.

Right now that's all she could find herself thinking about as she tried to convince herself that these unknown feelings toward Elijah were non existent.

____

Elijah could feel his life slipping away as the chirping of birds filled his ears, such a peaceful yet painful way to die.

He'd contemplated all the things he could've done had he been given a second chance at life, all the things that he'd always wanted for himself but never been selfish enough to pursue.

He wanted love, a complete family, peace, and to travel the world more than he already had before.

Paris was always a place that he'd found himself wanting to visit, though he'd never really got to go and see all the things that the beautiful place had to offer, due to the constant threats to his family.

Now as the light shined through the small cracks in the mold covered concrete of the now forever empty building, he found that the cracks in his armor were beginning to show as well, just as the ceiling of the room he lie in did.

By now he'd accepted that his attempts at crying out for help were getting him nowhere, and only instilled him with a false sense of security and hope that weren't actually there.

All he wanted was somebody to save, he'd accept anyone who came to his aid, his family, Hayley, the witches, hell, even Mara if she ever came back.

Just as he found himself being swallowed whole and assimilating into his depressive train of thoughts footsteps could be heard sounding in the distance, growing closer with each step.

"I'm in here, help!" Elijah yelled out, hoping that whoever was now in the building had pure intentions for him and wasn't just another person hoping to gain revenge on his family.

Thankfully, the unknown figure came into view and Elijah let out a breath of relief at the sight of the familiar face, Niklaus.

"Brother, who did this to you?", Klaus asked with furrowed brows, clearly angry, he knew it was most likely the same woman who had been causing trouble for all of the supernaturals in New Orleans. Though he wanted to hear it from his brother first before he did anything rash against the one person in New Orleans who could probably hold their own in a fight against him.

"Her", and that's all Elijah had to say as Klaus approached him and picked his limp body up from the ground before vamp speeding out of the building.

Mara was aware that Elijah had been taken from the place that she had left him in previously, though she did not make any moves to stop his savior.

She was more focused on the task at hand which was obtaining her wings, this entire time that's all that she was here for, all these weeks wasted on this simple task that she should've been able to complete but couldn't.

She was a god damn seven deadly sin, so why was it so hard to figure out where something important to her was being hidden, she could easily defeat anybody who stood in her way so she should've gotten her wings and been out by now.
