Chapter 8
Today is the last week of November, and around 2 weeks na lang ay birthday ko na. Abala din ang mga estudyante samin dahil sa December 16 ay christmas event na ng school namin.
It is always a big event sa school. Para syang prom pero christmas edition. Kaya madalas din ay 1 month before pa lang ay pinaplano na nila para marami silang time to prepare the materials and ayusin ang school.
Pinakabusy ang SSG o ang Supreme Student Government officers namin since sila ang naka assign sa planning at monitoring. Ang Arts Club naman ay assigned para sa pag dedesign sa mismong venue ng event, maaga nilang simulan dahil kailangan pa nila maghanap ng materials at gawin ang mga palamuti.
The other clubs are assigned para sa entertainment ng iba and also sa program nung event. They are also assigned for the awards/prizes and games para naman hindi boring ang event. Meron din na mga teachers and students na tumulong sa kanila.
Nagiikot-ikot din daw ang SSG para iannounce sa mga classrooms ang Christmas event. Naglagay din sila ng posters around the school and a big tarpaulin in the entrance of the school.
They also asked the president and treasurer of each classroom to collect funds for the food and mga materials na kailangan sa event. SI Riry ang treasurer ng class namin. Our classroom earned P2500 pesos, wew yayamanin mga kaklase ko ha.
Walang masyadong ganap sa mga klase namin. Usually umaabot lang ang mga lessons ng 40 minutes o kaya naman ay wala nang klase. Busy din kasi pati mga teachers for the event. Medyo nabawasan din yung mga nambubully sakin these past few days kasi pati sila ata busy din preparing for the event.
Sa tuwing naglalakad din ako sa hallway ay may nakikita akong mga estudyante na nagyayakag sa isa’t isa bilang maging date nila sa event.
Hmmm… Sino kaya pwede ko na maging date?
When we reached the cafeteria/ canteen para maglunch me and Riry sat beside Cole.
"Andaming nagiinvite sa isa't isa noh?" I said as I chuckled.
"Yeah. Have you got someone to take you to the event yet?" Cole calmly asked.
"Nah. I was thinking I would just go alone. Wala namang nagyayakag sakin eh. So yeah" I replied
"Are you like asking me to take you?" Cole said na natatawa tawa pa.
"Never said that" Did I sound like nagpalarinig ako? Di ko anamn intensyon yon ah!
"Yeah sure whatever" Cole said. Tumtawa na naman. Nakakainis kaya yung tawa nya. Parang nangiinis na ewan.
"By the way Riry. Have you got a date for the event yet?" I asked Riry. Para rin machange na nasakin yung atensyon.
"Uhm... Eh.. wala pa eh" at napakamot sa kanyang batok.
I swear this girl is hiding something from me. I can just feel it. Bakit kasi ayaw nya pang sabihin... Hay nako. Baka malaman ko nalang kung anong kagagahan ang ginawa ng babaeng ito!

Days and weeks passed. On the 9th of December. 2 days before my 16th birthday. I told my mom not to do something grand and let us just eat out. Since malapit sa birthday ko ang Christmas event namin sa school.
Today is the 11th of December. Sunday ngayon, buti nalang tumapat birthday ko ng weekend. Mom told me to put on a formal dress kasi medyo formal daw ang kakainan namin. Dinner kami aalis. Mga 5 daw aalis na kami since may kalayuan din yung kakainan namin.
It was 3 pm when I started preparing my things. I prepared my bag. And then at 4 I decided to take a bath.
I wore an asymmetrical bodycon dress na kulay black na may pink din. I paired it with a black high heel boots. I styled my hair into a messy bun. Tapos may unting strands ng hair na nakalaglag.
After that ay nag intay nalang ako sa living room where I see dad na nanonood ng tv. Naka polo siya na kulay blue navy at naka denim na jeans. I sat beside dad and as soon as I did that he talked to me.
"Happy birthday anak. Mahal na mahal ka namin ng mom at ate Liz mo. Kahit hindi ka namin totoong anak wag mong iisipin na di ka namin mahal. Ha?"
"Of course dad. Alam ko naman yon eh" I assured him.
"By the way ang ganda mo dyan Avy." He chuckled. "Ano kaya ang isusuot ng ate mo" nagiisip niyang sabi.
Palagi kasi kami ni ate na nagpapatalbugan kapag dating sa pananamit. HAHAHA
Nanood lang kami ni dad ng tv together hanggang sa bumaba na si mom and Ate Liz.
Ate was wearing a light pink maxi dress na may slit. Nakalugay ang hair nya at medyo kinulot. Naka stiletto heels naman si ate na kulay white. Mga 3 inches din kagaya ng akin ang heels nya.
While mom was wearing a burgundy chiffon dress na hanggang below the knee. At naka heels na black pero mga 2 inches lang ang heels nito.
Pagkababa nila ay binati nila ako parehas. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY AVY" They screamed together.
"Thankyou mom. Thankyou ate" then I hugged them both.
After that we closed our house at sumakay na sa kotse. It was a Chevrolet Equinox na SUV. Mom sat on the passenger seat habang kami naman ni ate ay nasa likod.
Medyo maliwanag pa since 5:15 kami umalis ng bahay. I stared outside the window. I watched the sunset. I feel so at ease whenever I'm with my family. I am so thankful for them. Kasi kahit di nila ako tunay na kamag anak ay they lived me like their own.
"You really do love sunset, noh?" Ate suddenly spoked.
"Yeah" I said quietly. I'm like this whenever it is my birthday. Malungkot ako na medyo masaya din naman. I'm sad kase my how can my birth parents leave me? Pero masaya din naman ako kasi ito rin ang palatandaan na minahal at inalagaan ako nina mom, dad at ate Liz.
I stared outside the car sa buong byahe. I heard mom and dad talking about something. I really didn't understand anything dahil I was focused on looking outside the window.
When we arrived at the restaurant. And parked the car, and then bumaba na kami. I was very confused kasi sarado lahat ng ilaw. Did mom and dad came ng di nila alam na sarado pala yung resto?
"Is it closed mom? Didn't you guys book a table?" I asked them.
"I don't know to be honest. But yeah we did book" She replied
"Let's look inside" Ate said
"No let's just go to another restaurant" I said. I don't want to break in a restaurant. Baka mahuli pa kamk ng pulis noh.
"Oh come on Avy. Let's just look" Ate said. Kinoconvince nya din sina mom an dad.
At first ayaw pumayag nina mom and dad pero napapayag din ni ate. Magaling talagang magconvince itong ate kong ito.
And with that we went inside. Ate lead the way and after entering. I was shocked by what I saw…
Never in my life did I thought that I can experience what I had just did.
