graduation day (5-18-22)
and when the dust settles
that will have been the last time i saw most of them
their dresses white and gowns blue
the sea of collared shirts and long dress pants
all crowded on one field
moving like birds about to flee their nests for the first time
that will have been my last mental snapshot of them.
they will be frozen in time as graduates
pain inflicted will have faded and the good times will stand out like silver linings are supposed to
with the snap of my fingers four years will turn into 4 seconds.
when the tears fall and after the claps roar through the stadium
the following silence will see us out.
