Night had quickly approached on the small outer rim world, bringing almost total darkness over the plant's grassy surface. A thin layer of clouds lined the night sky, covering everything but the two luminous moons who still shined brightly through the light haze.

Hidden behind a large formation of sturdy rock, a small fire illuminated the camp. Flames danced gleefully with the soft breeze. Their gentle orange hue a comfort to the young Jedi who gladly took their company on the misty night.

The hologram they held in their palm showed the plans for the upcoming attack on a vital Separatist ship factory. Anakin had stressed the importance of destroying it earlier when they first rendezvoused on the planet's surface.

The mission was theoretically straight forward, but with their luck, something was bound to go wrong and they just knew it, especially with Skywalker leading it.

It was (Y/N)'s job to lead half of their men towards the south entrance with Anakin and the rest of the team entering from the northern part.

Unfortunately for the young Jedi, due to the risk of Separatist scanners detecting their presence, the two groups had to land quite a few clicks from the factory. At least two days hike if everything went according to schedule. That meant no tanks or speeders.

With a huff, (Y/N) scanned the blue colored map of the factory, a palm against their chin. The Jedi had studied the plans dozens of times, but it was the only solace they could find around the lonely campfire.

Everyone else had taken shelter in the shallow caves, hoping to get some rest before the next long journey to the factory. Or so the young general thought.

It didn't take a force sensitive to hear the heavy footsteps and clattering of plastoid armor of the not so stealthy ARC trooper.

A small smile played at their lips as they kept their (E/C) orbs focused on the hologram. "Evening Fives," they greeted the clone.

The trooper stopped in his tracks.

"Kriff, I hate it when you do that. How'd you even know it was me?" The trooper, making his way closer to the fire.

"What can I say, I'm good at what I do." Their smile widened as they turned to face him. "Besides, you're not the most graceful mover out of the group."

"Very funny," Fives jokingly grumbled as he took a seat next to the (H/C) haired Jedi.

"What's got you up so late anyway?" He glanced over to them, leaning an elbow against his still armored knee.

(Y/N) looked over to meet his eyes before slowly turning to gaze at the dancing flames of the lively campfire.

"Oh nothing much. Just the pressure of completing my first real mission and trying to please the Jedi Council as I try and cope with the fact that my master is no longer by my side to guide me." They spoke, tossing the holoprojector to the side as they let out a sigh. "Other than that I'm just dandy."

"Oh, if that's all," the ARC trooper quipped.

The young Jedi gave him a playful punch in the arm as he flashed them his usual grin.

"Di'kut"

They both exchanged a light laugh before a comfortable silence took over.

The two sat side by side, only a mere foot apart, but this was too far away for the ARC trooper. Giving the young jedi a sly side glance as they kept a thoughtful gaze on the fire, Fives inched closer, their shoulders now touching.

This definitely got the attention of the jedi general as they turned their gentle gaze to the trooper leaning right beside them.

They peered up to share his gaze, a certain fire hidden in amber eyes that differentiated him from his brothers. His passion for his duty was certainly inspiring, and reflected deeply through his actions. Not only that, but that kriffing smile was intoxicating.

"Lost in thought jetii?" His breath was husky as a smirk made its way to his features.

They kept their gaze, not breaking it despite his playful remark. Their attention drawing to his lips.

"You could say that," they whispered, temptation drawing them closer.

"Oh, anything in particular?" His voice was seeping with smugness at this point, their faces only inches a part.

Both seemed to draw together, forgetting their roles to the republic as they focused on one another.

Their lips slowly connected, the movement seeming to be natural for the pair as passion radiated from their closeness.

(Y/N) ran their hand up the ARC's chest plate, bringing it to rest against his cheek as Fives rested his hands against their hips.

Fives, filled to the brim with confidence, deepened the kiss, pressing himself further against them.

The jedi suddenly pulled back from his embrace, guilt already eating at them.

"Kriff what are we doing?" They cursed as they stood up from their place on the log.

"General." Fives swiftly grabbed their arm, keeping them in place with a tight grip.

"No, Fives. Let me go." They did their best to inch away, a fear in their eyes that made a knot in his chest twist tighter.

They had done exactly what they always told themselves they wouldn't do. If their master could see them now, a disapproving glare would surely be what they would receive.

Their protests slowed as Fives worked up the courage to speak again.

"General please, just listen to what I've got to say."

Once they matched his gaze, his eyes started to move to anywhere but them.

"Look, I get it you Jedi aren't exactly supposed to be getting involved with us clones, but—

He took a deep breath, collecting his thoughts before he began to speak again.

"But I had to get it out there. Let you know that I care about you. You've always been there for me and I won't forget it—so, thank you."

He released their arm, expecting them to just walk away and leave him by the dying campfire alone.

"Fives." They breathed out, reaching out to take his gloved hand.

He looked up, a glint of hope starting to spark once they whispered his name.

They let out a breath, searching for the right words.

"You don't know how much I've wanted this. How much I've thought about you—but I can't. We need to focus on the war. Keep true to our oaths. For now at least."

They let their hand fall from his as their turned towards the mouth of the cave.

"I'm sorry."

With that they disappeared into the cave, doing everything in their power to not look back.
