oh my dear

you've painted mauve beneath your eyes

sketched scars across your skin

hollowed out the space between your ribs

and filed down the flesh on your limbs

you are both artist and art

and i can not stand to look for too long

the emptiness of where your laughs once curled up

and built a home between my bones

aching with a dull persistent cry

but then again

what beauty lies without slivers of madness and melancholy

threaded between

though i think i'd prefer

sanity and comfort

over feeble, painful beauty
