IT WAS HIS fault, Purpled figured, when he felt a sharp pain seize his left side. At first, he thought it was just something minor, until the teenager's eyes fixed on his wound, and a black liquid started oozing out of the deep gash, spreading.

His heart skipped a beat, and he didn't have enough time to brace for another attack before dark magic shot at his chest, sending him crashing down hard into the pavement. A pained cry escaped his lips as his body grazed against the concrete, and for the first time in a long while, Purpled felt fear.

He felt cowardly.

Instinctively, desperately, he called for his friend's help. "Eighty! On me!"

Within seconds, a dagger plunged into his attacker's chest, the Corrupt figure dissipating into thin air. Behind the Corrupted player stood his familiar black-and-white haired friend, his multicolored eyes settling on his friend; they widened in horror at the state that the dirty-blonde was in.

"Purpled- you okay?" The older dropped to his friend's side, his brows furrowed in concentration—and worry. Purpled opened his mouth, about to say something in reply, yet swiftly covered it with both hands when he felt something trickling down his chin, eyes filled with fear at this sudden change. It wasn't blood; it was too cold, which made the teen feel more anxious.

"E-Eighty-...it-it hurts-"

Purpled would've cringed at his voice if he had the energy to; he sounded as if he was back to being a young child, his voice strained to get the words across. Purpled knew he was a goner when a dark look flashed in Eighty's red and yellow eyes, but that didn't seem to phase the older all too much for him to start panicking.

Instead, he quickly averted his gaze to the portal, which was starting to glitch out. Then his eyes trailed over to Astelic and Sammy, who were busy helping the other players get through to the main lobby. They were almost finished with their task, but Eighty knew that he and Purpled wouldn't be able to make it out. The Corruption was closing in quickly, and it would only be a matter of time before he would get turned, too.

"Just try and keep your eyes open, alright?" Eighty lifted the other into his arms, trying to keep the dirty-blond comfortable. He shot a comforting glance at Purpled. "Can you do that for me?"

Purpled weakly hummed, the black substance starting to spread a bit quicker. Eighty ran back to the portal, cradling the injured boy in his arms. He tried to make it back the safest way possible, as to not injure his friend—or himself—much more.

As he neared, Astelic's eyes widened in horror once she realized what had happened to her friend. Sammy noticed, and pulled out a potion of healing to use on Purpled.

"Is he...-"

"Not yet, but he will soon," Eighty muttered, setting the injured boy down at the portal's steps. "It will only be a matter of time, and you and Sammy have to escape soon; the portal won't hold much longer."

"Wh-What about you? We-we can't leave you behind either!" She protested.

"You have to. We'll all be goners if you guys don't make it out." Eighty insisted, his voice firm. "I'll hold them back long enough for the Admins to shut down the portal. Either that or I'll shatter my gem."

"You're insisting on a suicide mission?!" Astelic yelled, feeling her anger start to rise. "You know it'll be near-impossible to retrieve your pendant's shards! Your memories could be erased, permanently-!"

"What choice do we have?!"

"No! I am not going to lose any more of my friends to this!" She roared, tears starting to spill. "Hannah, Walli, and Boomer are gone, plus Chaz has been missing ever since the attacks started. I am not losing you both, too!"

"Eighty, we're not leaving you and Purpled alone." Sammy piped up from behind the three of them, unsheathing a weapon of his own.

"But-" Eighty stopped himself when he saw Purpled sit up—seeming more stronger after he took a healing potion and a golden apple—and yank off his pendant from his necklace, before tossing it through the portal, the gem disappearing in a few sparks of purple light. Astelic and Sammy soon followed, tossing their own magical pendants through the portal, which was desperately trying to keep itself together before it fell.

Eighty was about to protest, about getting them to safety, but Sammy just looked over to him and smiled, as if it wasn't a suicide mission for all four of them. The oldest understood why they did that; it was as if they were giving a message to their loved ones if they didn't make it back alive. Plus, if–...when, they would get corrupted, they would be significantly less stronger since the Corruption wouldn't be able to take hold of their personal source of magic.

"We stick together, Eighty; throughout anything that poses as a threat to our friends." Astelic reminded him, starting to return to her bubbly, expressive self. And if they weren't in a life-or-death situation, Eighty would've made fun of her for how cheesy it sounded. As well as that just being a placeholder in their guild's motto (Purpled did admit he just wanted the guild to sound cool, which resulted in all of Tired making fun of him for that one).

But it wouldn't be fun and games anymore, and the four of them realized that.

They looked upon the sea of Corrupted heading right for them and the portal, which soon collapsed, was no longer usable. Sammy adjusted the shades on his face, his enchanted sword gripped tightly with his right hand. He turned to them and smiled, a competitive one at that, a green, magical aura starting to glow.

"You guys ready?" He asked, Astelic only grinning in response. Eighty helped Purpled up, his infection slowing down a bit, and the dirty-blonde smiled at him, although it seemed bit regretful. The oldest squeezed his hand a bit in reassurance, before turning to the Corrupted, his own magic starting to ready itself.

A tear slipped down his cheek, and a smile tugged at his lips: "Ready as I'll ever be."

And on the other side of the portal, a sobbing brother suffered, clutching his younger sibling's pendant tightly in his hand. He expected them to come out of that portal, unharmed, relieved to be reunited in the blond's arms.

But they never made it out alive. And the guild Tired, had officially collapsed, while putting in their best efforts to protect one another amidst an event like this.
