(extra ; might as well just write some stuff for my au some more. i wanna make a story with this, but i can develop plots far enough to actually write it. so for now, just expect some ideas and oneshots being thrown around here and there.

this oneshot takes place in hypixel. i headcanon each of the lobbies being sort of like islands, with the portals being connected to each other so you don't have to fly the distance. of course, pretty much all of the lobby islands don't look like their original at all, like arcade, classic, as a couple examples.

you can see this as a part two to my sixth oneshot, "we're in this together".)

(summary ; a few days after the bedwars lobby falls, fruit meets up with illumina near the border of the main lobby, and discusses the grim outlook of the near future ahead of them.)

"ILLUMINA." THE MASKED hybrid turned around, a bit startled, yet his features relaxed a bit once he saw who had called his name.

"Oh, hey Fruit." He greeted the lime-haired man, his dragon wings lowered slightly. Fruit offered a small smile, however it didn't last very long, and Illumina could tell something happened.

"How did-how did the evacuation in the Bedwars lobby go-?"

"They didn't make it out."

His eyes widened, Illumina's breathing hitched. Fruit turned back to look at him, his signature bracket-smile mask was pushed to the side, his eyes dark and knowing, and his cat ears dropped.

"The evacuees did, but..." he took in a breath, before continuing, "...but Purpled didn't- the whole remainder of his guild has fallen.

"Tired has been resigned, officially, and some members of HBG are keeping an eye out for them; they could cause trouble at any time."

"Who-who said they were looking out for Tired?" Illumina wanted- needed names, he didn't want to risk losing any more of his friends.

"Harvey and Punz, apparently; Harvey knows those parts much better than the other HBG members do. Although I told Punz that it might be...harder, for him." Fruit's tone changed into one of sadness, "I...I can't imagine what it's like for him to lose his brother."

Punz. The blonde-haired was the first person to pop in the dragon-hybrid's thoughts, and he took in a breath, his mind racing.

What would happen next? was the big question that hung in his head. Maybe if...maybe if he had sent more players to evacuate the civilians, then none of this would've happened-

"It's all my fault."

"...It's not your fault, Illu," Fruit said, his voice soft yet firm, as he walked over to his friend. "You were keeping things in order here, there's already enough situations here to manage-"

"But if only we were more careful!" Illumina tried to reason, however, Fruit wasn't having any of that.

"Illumina..." he placed a hand on the other's shoulder, giving him a reassuring squeeze. "There wasn't anything else you- we, could do. You did your best with what you had, and you know Scott wouldn't have let you left to go help; we need you here also, y'know."

"I- but..." he sighed, defeatedly, pinching the bridge of his nose; there was too much happening at once, "who...who did we lose, in total..?"

Fruit tore his gaze away, Illumina knew it was hard for the cat-hybrid also, he wasn't the only one who had lost people.

"Pete fell first, we all know that...Hermitcraft has collapsed, it's just Grian, False, Ren, Cub, Gem and Pearl. Apparently Scar 'escaped', but that seems unlikely, and we haven't had any word from him since then. The Dream Team's collapsed completely; Ant was lucky to have gotten out of there just in time to close the portal.

"And...and communication has been recently cut off from Quig. Last I heard, he was managing one of the lobbies with Callum, H and Calvin a day ago. Jack and Niki hung back on the defense, but I don't think that lobby has collapsed yet," Fruit finished, his tone growing more worried.

Illumina didn't say anything for a few moments, his thoughts still a mess, before sighing; "...Anything else?"

"Doubt it- oh!" Fruit snapped his fingers, a wandering thought made it back to him; "Tommy and Tubbo said there was another SMP that was holding their own quite well, they visited there once, I believe they told me. They're in contact with the members, don't know how many are left, but..."

"Do you know what server?" Illumina perked up, perhaps they could get some more help, after all.

"Lifesteal. Apparently they're all stacked, but they don't know if they'll be able to transport all of their weapons and shit over without getting Corrupt."

Fruit followed his gaze, staring off into the distance. The sky was a mix of blue and pink, the horizon fading to orange due to the sun setting. But he could see the darkened clouds from the issues, and his brows furrowed.

"We won't be able to stay here much longer, I don't think."

"What do you mean?" Illumina looked over to him, and Fruit sighed, crossing his arms, his tail flicking slightly.

"Illu, we...if they get access to the main portal, we're fucked. They can already get through the borders because they can travel from one lobby to the next without the portals. Yes, the distance is far, but they could still make it over." Fruit said. "We're losing people, Central Hub has been long gone, and there's no way we're getting to the MCC server without getting Corrupt ourselves. The portal there isn't even intact anymore."

"I know, I just..." Illumina drew in a breath, rubbing his forearm with one hand. "I-I don't know what to do anymore, Fruit."

"None of us do; we're running out of time," Fruit mused, he knew this wasn't going to end well for them. The two didn't say anything more, just standing next to each other, looking off in the distance, their minds wandering about what they should do next.

But Hypixel could only play on the defensive side for so long, until there was nowhere left to run next.
