The next morning I was still holding ice to my cheek and tried fixing my skateboard again then my bedroom door opened
"Come on!" Max said
"What?" I said confused
"Come on!" She said and I followed her to her room and we jumped out of her window, I threw the ice into a bush near by and Max got onto the back of Lucas bike and I ran behind them all the way to a junk yard and as we got there we saw Dustin and an older boy
"I said medium-well!" Lucas yelled to the two boys they looked up and he waved, I smile slightly and put my hands and my knees to catch my breath
"Holy shit!" I said getting pieces of metal and putting them up against the abandoned bus, me, Max and the older boy were doing all the dirty work while Lucas and Dustin spoke about something
"Hey, you alright? You look, like really out of breath!" The older boy said to me
"Yeah! I'm great definitely didn't run, how ever many miles." I said getting another pieces of metal and putting it against the bus the older boy nodded and walked over to Lucas and Dustin taking, eventually we were all done and we sat inside the abandoned bus
"I can't feel my legs..Jesus!" I muttered
"What? You haven't done much?" Max said looking at me
"Hey! I ran how ever many miles while you were on the back of Lucas's bike! So don't say I haven't done anything." I whispered to her a little pissed off because I was hungry and tired
"Woah! Calm down!" She said to me I gave her a dirty look and moved away from her
"So, you really fought one of these things before?" Max asked and the older boy nodded "And you're, like, totally, 100% sure it wasn't a bear?"
"Shit. Don't be an idiot. Okay? It wasn't a bear." Dustin said "Why are you even here if you don't believe us? Just go home"
"Sheesh. Someone's cranky. Past your bedtime?" Max said standing up and going up the ladder to Lucas
"That's good. Just show her you don't care." Steve said to Dustin
"I don't." Dustin said and Steve winked "Why are you winking, Steve? Stop."
I sat back and listened to Max and Lucas quietly
"Do you miss it?" Dustin asked sitting next to me
"What?" I ask looking at him
"You know, California?" He said looking back at me
"Oh, yeah, I miss, like, my mom, and the ocean.." I said looking away from him
"Your moms still there?" Dustin said
"Yeah, she left..she left me and Billy at a young age.."
"Im sorry..I bet Hawkins seems pretty boring compared to California?" Dustin said
"No, I mean yes, but I mean it's a big change of scenery, no ocean, no sand, I mean my dad and step-mom wanted a change, to get away from Max's dad, and they wanted a change anyway, so they brought me, Max and Billy here, I was hoping the change of scenery would help Billy be less of an asshole, but I don't think that's going to happen. I mean I feel like I'm going crazy because I feel like I'm slowly becoming like him.." I looked back at Dustin and saw him staring at me
